Should I join the military?

I was in ROTC throughout high school and really liked it, though I decided to go to college instead of enlist at which point I sort of lost sight of the military. After I obtained my B.A., I then considered a career in the military again, but I was interested in Air Force OTS...took the tests, etc. I had excellent scores, some being outstanding, but because I was 26 years old at the time, I was competing with guys who also had good scores but were 4 years younger than me, so I wasn't selected.

After that I went to graduate school, but I sometimes wish I hadn't taken so long to get my undergraduate degree. Oh well...lol.

Paid my way thru college post USMC then the USAR paid for med school but I would advise against. An enlisted reservist will likely serve actively possibly indefinitely. USMC made a man out of me though. No other way get Navy or Air Force to pay for it thru reserve program. Best to be an officer.

Heck no. Why anyone would join the military in this day in age is beyond me.

1. Good experience
2. See the world
3. Lots of cool toys
4. Great benefits (including the many chicks who dig soldiers)
5. Comaraderie
6. Beats working at Walmart or Jiffy Lube

Some things to consider:

Recently, I read an article that said there is a waiting list nearly a year long to join.

The military will be cutting soldiers soon. The Army has to cut 85,000, I believe. The Navy, ** and USMC also have to cut a lot. How would this affect you? More competition for promotions and slots, maybe lower bonuses, etc.

Oh, add to the list:

1. Pride in the United States of America, the greatest country in the world.
2. A sense of duty and service unmatched by any other profession.
3. A chance to add your name to the long list of those who have given their names in service to this great nation.
4. Being a part of the most bad-*** job in the entire United States.

Shall I continue?

Feh, I can't into it here without violating rules. I'd just say, in this day in age, I'd pass on joining the military. Once upon a time, it wasn't like it is today.

Because they don't want to serve? Your comments are beyond ridiculous, and make me sick.

If we ever have a war of defense (one worth fighting), I would support it whole heartedly. However, I do not play pawn to corrupt politicians and war profiteers.

Now if your refering to my user name, it’s from ‘Always Sunny in Philidelphia’

See my sig image now...it applies to those that want to argue in this thread and get personal.

I work for the Army, civilian. I deal with the military every day. I would definitely recommend service in today's military. Opportunity is the key word. Nowhere will you get such great opportunity. In the military, you definitely get out of it what you put into it.

From what I've seen, my guess is that to most in the service right now, it is just a job. Show up, do your work, go home. However, "home" could be anywhere from German to Afghanistan to Kansas to Korea, etc.

When I was in that's how I saw it also except that job paid for my education.
