Should Pollard Be The Change Of Pace Back For Dowdle?

It’s not about being a 1 or 2. It’s about using guys evenly and to their strengths. Dowdle obviously has more success running in between the tackles early than Pollard does. While Pollard seems to be at his best in a change of pace role and in space.

Two different backs with complimenting styles ala Zeke and Pollard. Last years carry distribution was fine, it was just that Zeke had lost so much juice that his part of the backfield responsibility was being under performed.
I recall Mike Shannon in Denver had a 1,000+ back every year. When they wanted a new contract he would let them walk. Still had a 1,000+ back the following year. The key is the OLine. RB's sell Jersey's. Jerry likes selling jersey's.

I’m just saying, even early game Dowdle was juice up the middle. Pollard struggles early game
How about we just stop running up the middle?

We should always be going outside the tackle with the option to cut back up the middle.

I agree Dowdle is a tough player inbetween the tackles. He has a little Marion Barber in him where he runs angry. With that said though up to this game I don't know that Dowdle as seperated himself where he's done enough with his 42 touches in prior games to earn more playing time. Maybe that changes after this game, but one thing is clear and that is Pollard isnt nearly as effective in prior seasons.
Rico is good when he hits an open hole. He’s does what they want. Keep running straight.

Tony is done.

I’ve never seen a player lose speed like he has in one season.

Of course it’s the leg.

Mike Shanahan along with his son have the best running schemes in the business. This current scheme is garbage compared to the Shanahans'.

Coming into draft the 2 biggest needs imo we’re OL and RB followed by LB

While the jury is still out but I see this draft at this point as a failure

I see why they took Mazi and perhaps he contributes on a higher level this year but schoon pick and lack of a RB to replace Zeke is a solid D at best

Duece is not being used right but he is a reach at a position we didn’t need to reach for
And while we have a few posters that are gonna go down with that schoon ship it was a pick that was not a necessity as evident by Ferguson emergence

This team on OL may very well spell its soon later in season but we’ll see. Center and RT is a weakness

Poor Zack ! Y’all better hope Richards and Bass pans out

Its pretty clear to me that we need an A-Tier RB next season. Pollard is and will always be a great Number 2 and change of pace. But we need another work horse.

Neither Dowdle or the rest of the RB is the answer. Any NFL RB could have feasted on the Giants Highschool Team yesterday.

I think Pollard is threatened by Dowdle because TP ran hard yesterday.

I think this makes sense.

No way they cut Tony another big check. He’s UFA.

No let’s get it right it’s Biadasz and Steele hate!!!

My response is Zack being in the middle of those 2 is unfortunate for him. Hence the poor zack comment

You watch down the stretch those 2 positions are going to be the positions of concern

Committees work sometimes. Sometimes, they just mean you don't have a back worth carrying the majority of the load. Dowdle is averaging 3.8 yards per carry. Some fans get caught up in a few good runs. Neither Pollard (4.0) nor Dowdle is exactly doing great. Common sense would have been understanding that a backup coming off injury, a cheap FA, a couple of UDFAs and a late-round pick was unlikely to produce a great running game.
Dowdle is averaging 4.5 per carry compared to Pollards 3.9.

Neither is a full time starter
And to think we are paying Pollard 10 million LOL
Pathetic

I am seeing some better stuff out of dowdle, but I am not sold yet. is Dowdle the change of pace back that Pollard was last few years and if he gets to the lead role, then does he turn into pollard. its defintley a different role.

but right now I think we have OL blocking scheme issues that causing a lot of this.

Yes

Maybe by seasons end Pollard regains some burst from his injury but right now its painfully obvious Rico is better and that $$$ is dictating their decision
This is a silly take. You are spending the money either way. Dowdle should get a few more carries!

Some of us knew Pollards numbers would go down once he became number 1 and teams focused their game planning on him. Why wouldn't the same happen if you make Dowdle the #1?
You are correct sir.. however in defense of the start Dowdle crowd the theory is that if you sacrifice Dowdle to the task of beating down the defense you regain the advantage of fresh legged Pollard gashing the tired defense. So the question becomes is it better to get 3.8-4.0 ypc from both backs or 3.5 from one guy and 5.0 from the change up?

I disagree..

There have been several times Pollard still looks absolutely shot out of a cannon.

Hes just not hitting home runs constantly like he was because the blocking is so bad.
The blocking has been mostly horrific
