Should Pollard Be The Change Of Pace Back For Dowdle?

The site I looked at for stats did have Hambrick listed as starting 11 games in 2001, when Emmitt was still with here. However, he only had 113 carries over 16 games (7.4 per game), which is hardly a starter's load. However, looking up Emmitt, they have him listed as starting 14 of 14 games for us that year, so I'm not sure why they give Hambrick "starts" unless we were running some two-back stuff that I don't remember.
No idea. Was he playing a FB role that year? Must have been.

I think Pollard is threatened by Dowdle because TP ran hard yesterday.
Doesn’t matter. TP needs to be gone after this season and replaced with a FA or draft pick. He’s a 5-8 run per game back JUST LIKE FELIX WAS and we all know how that turned out.

Polly is a good player, but I've never been as high on him as some/many were. I've always thought he was replaceable, not the guy you give a big contract to. I was fine franchising him for one year, but no more.

I frankly think Schultz is a better overall player. He sure is tearing it up for the Texans, a huge part of their emergence as a possible playoff team.

I’m just saying, even early game Dowdle was juice up the middle. Pollard struggles early game
Sometimes, Dowdle is the lone running back. Other times, Pollard is the lone running back. Is there anything productive to come from labeling them one or the other? I say no.

They tried to make Hambrick a fullback when he came into the league. That's why he had 11 starts in 2001. He was a terrible blocker though so the Cowboys eventually saw the error of their ways and put him as the backup tailback to Emmitt.

Just play both of them.

I honestly don’t get why Vaughn isn’t a bigger part of this offense as well.

I’d love to see him in these games where the running is a little tough.

I have yet to see any type of explosiveness from Vaughn. This isn't college your average Joe has the speed to burn.

Needs be lot more for dowdle. Almost 50/50
This! The argument that just because Pollard gets paid more he needs the lions share of carries makes no sense, if they want more out their Pollard investment they need to use him less, not more. And Dowdle is capable of breaking the game changing runs too.

Thanks. I thought that might be it but just couldn't remember.

I don't know if it is a question of giving up on him or more about what he might receive in free agency. I can't see the team franchising him again for $10 million plus. Of course, if he continues to play like he has, he may be fairly cheap to bring back. Maybe then we'll actually pair him with a top back and let him return to the role he excelled in.

Fun story.. The first game I ever attended at the old stadium was in 2002 against the Giants. Hambrick was the starting FB in that game but as I said, he was terrible. I was sitting corner end zone on the lower level when the Cowboys offense was moving in our direction. They had gotten to the Giants' 30 yard line when they ran the toss sweep to the left. Hambrick was supposed to lead Emmitt but completely whiffed on the OLB. No matter. Emmitt dipped inside to make the backer hesitate and then darted around Hambrick basically making it appear like Hambrick had made a block.. Emmitt was the best I've ever seen at manipulating the defenders into having to go around or through blockers to get to him. Then a safety who had come up in run support met Emmitt head on at about the 25 yard line. Emmitt ran right through him.. Knocked the dude on his arse and barely broke stride on his way into the end zone. One of the most impressive things I'd ever seen Emmitt do.. and I had seen him do a lot of impressive things. People who don't understand just how special that dude was irk me. The Cowboys ended up losing that game when Quincy Carter's would be game winning TD pass in the waning minutes was about 6 inches too long for Antonio Bryant. I still maintain to this day that Bryant would have caught it if he'd layed out for it.

They’re not going to start Dowdle over Pollard. Pollard is making too much money this season and he’s a game changer, but they appear to be dividing the carries more evenly between them. It’s giving Pollard a little more rest.
Sadly that’s how Jerry runs things…..the person being paid more starts, even if the team would he better if someone else was starting…..Jerry freakin Jones

this is up to jerry , and he always wants the guy making the most $ to start and get most of the carrys.
Same as when elliot was here, he started no matter what.
HOwever it may be up to mike as to which back is used down close to the goal line.

I think it’s worth a shot, don’t think it would hurt….Rico runs more like Zeke in terms of aggression and power (not the same, but more than Pollard)…..still splitting carries of course, but changing it up. Carolina a good team to try it on lol.

It looks that way. Of course then I need to figure out if I start Pollard or Dowdle in fantasy. I'll get over though, cause Pollard been doodoo for me.

That right there is the difference. Polly does not break tackles on inside runs, and never did. Dowdle breaks some. He's not some stud tackle breaker, no, but he does run through some of them.
This……Rico is more physical and aggressive a runner, u can see it when he gets through the line.
