That could be by midseason or 12 games in, but if Romo plays well there is no need to wait til after the season----he can save himself a chunk of change by doing so.
Besides, what is the alternative? Start all over with a retread QB or even a rookie....NO WAY, especially with the new stadium close to opening. Jerry has shown his hand by not drafting Brady Quinn.
Something tells me that after a full training camp as the #1 QB, Romo feels more knowledgable and comfortable with the position and don't expect him to have a string of bad outings like the tail end of last year. Might as well get used to it, Romo is here to stay.

1 I don't believe he will tank this season and yes he is the real deal.
2 If the defense shine through out the entire season, there is no reason the Boys don't successfully go to the playoff.
3 With Dallas moving in the new stadium next year, Romo will be a ticket seller, meadia attraction, attention bringer for this team. Jerry Jones knows this and will take full advantage of Romo's star power.
4 Like stated before, there is no other which gives the Boys the best chance of winning and you know Jones do not want to start all over with a rookie QB or a FA learning the system.
So, I safe it is safe to safe that we have our long term QB playing now and I don't see much that will change that barring a serious injury or complete explosion in a downward spiral by Romo.
IMO

Seriously, what are our other options?
1. Only other QB on roster is freaking Brad Johnson and his weak arm
2. Sign a vet cast-off from another team in free agency, good luck.
3. Use Brown's #1 on a rookie, $35 mil guarented to a rookie QB...pass
4. Trade draft picks for another team's backup....no Schuabs left however
So, as you can see, we really have no options at this point but to pay Romo what he wants. For those that say they have not seen enough to make a decision, I ask you which of the alternatives above are you going to go with

Football is a TEAM sport, not a one man show like people think Romo or T.O. are!
Romo will get his money when he gets it. If he does not make the playoffs we don't pay him? Right....

There have been past defenses which have been very good that never played in January.

Well that would depend on how bad he performed. I never heard of a organization rewarding someone for individual accomplishments even though the organization didn't achieve it's goals

2. Usually, a good defense alone can't get a team into the playoffs if the offense isn't good enough to do it's share.
