I don't know. It is an intellectual argument that you are making.it would cripple the cartels and reduce crime. I'm not advocating that at all, but I could see those being the main justifications if that were to ever happen.
Look here, History is an evolution. We have drug laws today because past generations have had access to drugs, and they found them to be harmful to their society. The modern generation always thinks they are smarter and more sophisticated than the previous generations and therefore history keeps repeating itself. I don't think we want to devolve into a drug free society.
But I agree with you on the money aspect. It does feel like some of the Drug Laws are more about making money than helping people.
