It will be good for teams that have an atheltic 3rd QB that can have a few packages put in for a change of pace but that is not us at all. JMO

noshame;4064578 said:With the young/overhauled OL I think you keep all three, Kitna being #3.

Doomsday101;4064581 said:Well if the coaches felt they had no chance of being contenders they may feel the same way. If you thought they were contenders this season would you keep Kitna?
EGG;4064615 said:If I thought they were a contender I would keep Kitna, he can still make most of the mid-range throws and is less likely to make the stupid mistakes. It is close though, McGee makes up for his lack of experience with his mobility and clutch play.
It's a tough call because the weak schedule might give the defense time to solidify and they are a contender if the defense looks like they did 2 years ago. That's asking a lot out of this defense though, I think top QBs are going to kill them.

I'm thinking it may be time to start developing another guy, if there's someone available after roster cutdowns who could be that guy.
I just don't see what Kitna gives us, other than leadership, over McGee. If Romo is out for a significant amount of time, I think he limits our offense more than McGee does.
The third string always gets the most reps in preseason.CooterBrown;4064624 said:I think there is a reason McGee is playing so much in pre-season. It could be that they know Kitna doesn't need to learn the position and McGee is still a work in progress. On the other hand, it could be that they are giving McGee an audition to see if he is ready to be #2. If he is ready, Kitna may be cut.
I think it comes down to roster numbers at each position and balancing cost/benefit and risk/reward. Would you cut Kitna so you could keep AOA another year? What about an extra reciever vs Kitna? Tanner vs Kitna? Albright or Cummings vs Kitna? Kitna does not play special teams, not even as the holder. So if McGee is #2 QB, Kitna is just a spectator in uniform.
I don't know what the organization is thinking about or even pretend to be able to make predictions about this topic, but if I were Garrett, Yeah, I'd cut Kitna and keep a game-day contributor.

Doomsday101;4064546 said:But most teams will and with a change in the rule this year it makes it even easier to keep 3 QB on the team
The owners and players have agreed to expand game day rosters from 45 to 46 active players. The No. 3 quarterback will no longer be an “emergency” inactive player.
In other words, a team can insert its third-string quarterback for a short period at any point in the game, then take him out and put the starter back in. Previously, the first and second quarterbacks couldn’t re-enter the game if the No. 3 quarterback played before the fourth quarter.
