Should we look to extend Rico Dowdle?

For what? He's just a guy. He has yet to stay healthy for a full year going back to high school. Not the NFL, not college, high school. We're making a mistake thinking of him as the #1 guy.

He's our RB1, and the earth knows he's "not a starter on any team in the nfl of the 31 other rosters!" With that said, if he continues to trend upwards throughout the season, and REMAIN healthy, could we give him a nice payday? Please give your thoughts
extend him what, an Uber ride out?

Don’t worry folks….you’ll likely get your first round, marketable, jersey selling star running back come early May.

Next thing you know this player heads to Cabo after year three demanding big money because they know full well that between the fifth year option and two tags, that’s about a wrap on an RBs career and they will never get the bag that way.

Take RBs between rounds 3-5 and recycle them every few years. Draft them in advance knowing you’ll need replacements rather than waiting until a year after it becomes a problem. Its maddening how they continue to do that for decades now.

Keep fresh legs for cheap. I have about zero confidence that this FO gets it and Jerry is probably gonna see a shiny toy available around pick 20 and get about as excited as when he sees airline employees.

Not a chance. The Cowboys will draft a RB next year in the 1st 4 rds, pay a rookie deal and get at least the same production. Dowdle may return, but it would be a bare minimum contract...... and even if he does, Dallas is still looking to replace him.

Very very few people included in the "we're".

We can find a Rico Dowdle pretty easy anywhere. While I appreciate his efforts he’s just a guy. I’d love to have the Boise back but i think he’ll be gone by the time we draft

Nope. Resign only IF we strike out in the draft because we know we aren’t signing anyone of value in FA

We need to draft some RBs next year, or maybe draft 1 and sign a few undrafted free agents. But we need new RBs.

I'd keep Rico and Luepke and possibly draft two.
I'd keep Luepke and be content with Dowdle walking. He is playing hard and has a good story. However, he is very replaceable. I wouldn't allocate the cap space to retain him.

Luepke is under contract.

NO. why? why sign an extend a RB that is not a starter on 31 other teams...what would you expect to gain? if he is not a starter on 31 other teams, then he is going to be available next season.

Let’s see how everyone feels about extending Rico now.
