Should we trade for Aaron Rodgers? Larry Fitzgerald thinks so

Love AR. Hated him when he crushed our playoff hopes twice, but as his career has gone on, I have nothing but respect for the guy. He keeps it real and doesn't feed into the media BS. A guy I'd gladly have a beer with and talk about life.
Well said

And this is exhibit A why he'd never even be considered by our FO, no matter what the dollars add up to

He's an independent thinker and the total opposite of a company man/errand boy. Jerry doesn't like those types of people in his sphere

Just think about the money Jerry will make on Jersey sales
But what number would he wear?
The Cowboys do not officially "retire" jersey numbers.
But I cannot recall and QB/player wearing the No. 12 in the regular season since Staubach retired.
Of course, the College Football & NFL Legend\ HOFer would not mind at all if Rodgers had the number if he signed on with Dallas to finish out his career.

Would be awkward, but it can be done. Moving Dak post June 1 would only be an 18m$ cap hit this year, then you can agree to a new deal for Aaron once he joins so you can control what his cap hit is. As long as it’s structured to be under 30m$, you’d save money overall vs keeping Dak.
His 2023 salary would be guaranteed so not sure the 18 mil is accurate

I'd only be on board with a rookie. Not Karen Rodgers
The point is that no GM would cut the starting QB if he had 31M guaranteed. There would be zero benefit to cutting him because they would be paying him anyway.

With regards to Rodgers, yes the model to avoid big cap problems is to replace big contract QBs with rookie contract QBs in order to offset dead-money when the big contract QB is gone.
- Replacing Dak with Rodgers would be on the far opposite end of that model.

Guarantees hit the books when they’re paid out. The team he plays for would be on the hook for a guaranteed salary when the payments are due; so if he was traded to GB, then it’s guaranteed on GB’s dime.

Dallas is only on the hook for proration of guarantees that have already been paid previously

if he came here and we win the super bowl, I don't think I could take the dak hate.

Something tells me Rodgers might be reluctant to sign up for a partnership with Big Mike as his HC. :muttley:
Of course, that's entertaining the idea that Jerry and Stephen would even consider him to start with.

both true, but he did say he loves playing in ATT, and in a dome. As a older player, playing outside for all home games is harder and gets old.
Rodgers would have more talent to work with here, and with him would have decent shot at SB.
Maybe let him call his own plays.

It becomes guaranteed in march
If you cut him post June it’s on the cowboys

Yes, it’s guaranteed in March but it’s not paid until the games are played, hence it still being salary and not converted into a bonus. If Dallas cuts him they have to pay him still, but in a trade You can move those guarantees on to Green Bay or whatever team as long as it’s before they’re paid out.

Baker Mayfield is an example of that; Cleveland was trying to trade him but the team that got him would be on the hook for his guaranteed salary. Which is why they didn’t outright cut him, as Cleveland would have to pay him as if he’s still on the roster if no one else picked him up on waivers.

So after June 1st, Cowboys will save his guaranteed salary from the books as long as a trade partner is found
