They were willing to spend $6 million per year on Murray last year. Is $5 million a year for a much younger player with much less wear and tear out of the question?

$5 mil is an assumption that very likely won't hold up when the time comes. I think he'll command considerably more but that remains to be seen. Regardless, a draft pick might come for considerably less -- especially so if it involves a mid rounder or later.

If Miller were older, I could understand a prove it deal, but the franchise would be better off giving him a multi year deal for less guarantee. He's produced like a starter, he'll likely command 4-5 mil a year, and one crazy team might offer more. That said, the Demarco fiasco in Philly likely will make teams wary of giving that type of money to any RB not named Doug Martin this year.

I don't even think they wanted to give Murray 5 million per year...

I thought the offer was actually six mil per year and he balked.
I'd easily pay that to Miller and then have the freedom to use our first pick on a QB.

Plus you get to subtract the 2m to McFadden.

You could draft a RB later and sign a vet like Turbin or someone similar to the minimum.

Yeah I just don't think DMC is the answer, he's okay but not going to body blow teams into submission in the fourth quarter like we were able to do with Murray.
