Paul Brown knew of the 43 before it was introduced by Coach Landry, according to a discussion I once heard. I'm sorry, I don't have a link but this was some years ago. I think I heard it in a discussion from Irv Cross many, many years ago. Basically, Paul Brown figured out how to stop his own Ohio Offense years before but he never made it public because he didn't want other teams to use it. According to the story, Tom Landry, who basically patterned his coaching style after Brown, learned of it and implimented it when with the Giants as a player coach. It's an interesting story. I wish I had it to post but it's been a good 30 years since I first heard of it.
