Signing players early!

Our players or other FA's? If it's other FA's then the answer is HELL NO.

All FA's signed the first couple of days are so overpaid it's not ridiculous it's stupid.
Yeah I'm sure that the Seahawks really regret signing Darnold on March 10th last year....The Patriots are probably not going to recover from signing Milton Williams either.

They needed an experience QB and didn't want to go with a rookie.

You and I both know how overpaid FA's are when FA starts.
Are they overpaid or are they just the best players at their positions more often than not?

Davante Adams seemed to be worth his 2/$44m deal with the Rams. Robert Spillane seemed worth his 3/$33m deal with the Patriots. Jordan Lewis was said to be overpaid, but by the end of the year most fans were wishing we had just paid him. Talanoa Hufanga was a big part of Denvers defense this year. Very few even knew who he was but that 3/$39m contract didnt seem to be an overpay. New England, LAR, Seattle, and Denver, all the teams in the championship games this year went out and spent on big contracts during the legal tampering period before FA officially started.

Yeah there are landmine players in FA every year you need to avoid, but the teams making moves in this league haven't been afraid to go get players to put their teams over the top.

I was specifically referencing the Cowboys.

They haven't been one player away in a loooong time.

Better to get players signed now so we are more focused on our offseason targets aka Yacht staying at port Day 1

Can the Jones please get players signed quickly and not draw it out ! Just one year with quick signings, PLEASE !
Not defending the Jones family by any means (definitely not in fact) but you act like the only side deciding when to sign someone is the Cowboys when that's not true at all.

If a player thinks they are worth $10 million per year and Jerry offers $8 million, that player and his agent are going to keep talking to teams trying for more money. The same would be true even if he offered $10 or $12 million.

Why? Because players and their agents are out to get the highest contract they can so the longer they wait (at least the in-demand players) the more they will likely make.

I always find it funny when fans get mad at teams for not signing players fast enough when they know very well if they went to buy a car and the dealer wanted to charge them $5k more than they wanted to pay for it they would hold off buying it as well.

If Parsons had accepted Jerry's offer last year, he would still be on the Cowboys. Jerry was ready to sign him to an extension. Parsons and his agent though held out because he wanted more money. Neither side was right or wrong, just focused on their best interests.

The only way to sign players quickly is to 1) vastly overpay them and make your team suffer in other areas due to cap limitations or 2) make offers to players few teams want to sign.

This will fall on deaf ears. They won’t get Pickens signed and will end up tagging him, causing a rift between Pickens’s camp and the Cowboys.

They should take care of this now so they can focus on other free agents, especially adding to the defense.

Neither was New England....they went out and got Milton Williams, Stefon Diggs, Morgan Moses, Harold Landry, Carlton Davis, and Robert Spillane. I don't expect the Cowboys to go to that extreme on the spending, nor do they have to either IMO....You have two 1st round picks, go get 2 really good quality free agents to help your defense with some typical lower level guys (like the Solomon Thomas's of the world) and field an actual competitive team in 2026. The pure budget FA approach along with hitting on every single draft pick to fill holes isnt a high probability strategy.

Pretty much this right here...We will know how serious the Cowboys are about winning based on how urgent they handle the Pickens situation. Dragging this out and using his franchise tag cap hit as an excuse for sitting out free agency is basically the Cowboys punting on another season as they see the team valuation go up.
