Phil Simms on a radio interview tonight...

Quote..."Dallas has the biggest and best stadium with the largest fan base in the NFL, but they are the only team in the NFL without a home field advantage."

Those of you who live in Dallas and are season ticket holders can probably attest to the validity of this, but I think the general consensus is we have a wine and cheese crowd that will never be confused with "intimidating."

I'm also curious as to the difference between Cowboy Stadium and Texas Stadium as far as noise.

Hasn't Dallas been using the scoreboard recently to help this?

I wish our fans were more intimidating as well. But the fact of the matter is, 95% of our fans that attend games reside in Texas. And as you know, Texas is a laid back kind of state. Just the way it is. It's a state of mind.

Well most your rowdy type fans are at home at those prices and with the lower bowl at the high prices tend to be a large corporate ticket yea it is more a place to be seen

This is probably truer than anything folks could say about there being a wine and cheese crowd there.

Every game I've gone to, I see die hard fans excited to be at the game. It's not exactly dominated by the corporate types that people claim have taken over.

I loved my seats at the old stadium. I sat around a great bunch of people for the most part, who liked to be loud and rowdy and have a good time...it was a blast to go to each game.

Now I sit in the club seats in the new stadium and get dirty looks every time I stand up or yell to make some noise. I actually had a guy sitting in front of me cover his ears as he turned around and glared at me for yelling when we were on defense.

Simms has done one game at the new stadium... a blowout win over the Raiders where their MVP of the game was their punter.

The crowd was pretty loud, especially at the beginning, and when they played the messages from Keith Brooking, but it wasn't deafening. But I'm not sure if you'd expect a non-conference game against a non-rival that sucks and that we pretty much dominated to be one of our loudest showings.

I thought during the Redsk*ns game we had a definite home-field advantage and the crowd was excellent.

Also, we're 5-1 at home, so I'd say there must be some kind of home-field advantage there.

usually the rowdier fanbases are the angrier fanbases, angry about their real lives and their real situations and they let that anger overflow into passion towards their teams....at least this has to be a portion of the reason.

What do folks in Dallas truly know about despair. Dallas is a happenin town these days compared to a lot of the NE or Midwest cities. Dallas is a lot cleaner and healthier than a lot of those cities as well. Honestly, even the ghettos of Dallas are like the Beverly Hills of ghettos compared to the ghettos of NY, Chicago, Detroit, Philly, etc.....

So yes, we Texans are a passionate bunch, but we are also very laid back, very friendly, and very easy going....unless you mess with our way of life....then we become mean and ornery.

But I will take our low key crowd anyday over the criminals that used to encompass the Vet

Simms is a ^#$&ing tool, one of the worst analysts in the game. He is execrable, banal, and grating. I was at the Commander game, and that stadium definitely gets loud.

Screw Simms. He is among a handful of people who I loathe as incompentent overconsumers of oxygen.

Are you kidding me? I've lived in Texas off and on for some time, and at least in Houston, it is the closest thing to a northern city transplanted in the south that you can find. It is hardly filled with southern hospitality. For that, you'll have to cross the border into Louisiana.

Laid back? Try driving 10 mph overthe speed limit in Texas and you'll get run over.

I have a feeling the crowd is the rich type that don't raise their voices much.

I went to games in the 1990's, and attended the 93 and 95 NFC Champ games in Texas Stadium. I can tell you that it was loud as heck, and the crowd was liquored up.

Unfortunately, those fans have been priced out now.

It's the same with the Lakers. I love the Lakers, but man most of the time the crowd isn't rowdy, at least compared to other fans I hear on TV. Same with the Cowboys. I went to a Laker playoff game this past May and no one stood up off their seats, when they come to Phoenix to play the Suns there are usually quite a few Laker fans and most the time we are hollering and having a great time, of course these tickets are much cheaper compared to staples center. So yea I'll say that price is a huge factor in this.

The Cowboys having a weak home crowd? This is nothing new at all. The loudest Cowboys game I have been to in person was the skins game last year. How loud Texas/Cowboys stadium has alot to do with how well the team is doing record wise. If it is a big game the crowd shows up, a game like thanksgiving's was going to be dull and quiet. We aren't going to have that crazy crowd like New Orleans.

A large % of Houston are non-native Texans and white collar workers. It is by far the most metropolitan area in Texas so it's not really an accurate depiction of the lifestyle here. Venture into the smaller communities and you'll see what he means.

I though the "party decks" were suppossed to change this???

I know they had alot of problems with the decks on openning night and they had to cut back how many they sell now, but you would think the crowd noise would still be pretty loud.

I think the crowd noise has been far better in this stadium than in the last.

Not a shocker. More people, more noise. I would say that a little work could be done on knowing when to be noisy. Seeing the offense try to quiet the crowd is almost as disheartening as seeing Bobby try to hype the crowd during a road game.

When Philly comes to Dallas this year, I expect that place to be bananas.

I agree. Let's use Philly and even NY as examples. The northeast is fairly depressed job-wise for the blue-collar folk. So tempers and anger run a little more rapant. And rooting for your team, i.e. Iggles, Giants is an outlet of sorts. Bad environment, and bad teeth (lack of a dental plan) mixed with copius amounts of alcohol makes for a pretty nasty fan. :D

Houston is a very international city, an increasing amount of out of staters are fleeing to Texas as tax exiles and for economic opportunity.

I'm on that list too, right??

Do you ever get nostalgic for the glory days of the Cowboys' newsgroup?? I can't tell you how cathartic it would be to be able to let a few vulgarities fly every once in a while, like way back then... :D
