Phil Simms on a radio interview tonight...

Quote..."Dallas has the biggest and best stadium with the largest fan base in the NFL, but they are the only team in the NFL without a home field advantage."

Those of you who live in Dallas and are season ticket holders can probably attest to the validity of this, but I think the general consensus is we have a wine and cheese crowd that will never be confused with "intimidating."

I'm also curious as to the difference between Cowboy Stadium and Texas Stadium as far as noise.

Thats funny. I said our crowd appeared weak on TV and got ripped.

Oh well. Guess me and Phil are wrong.

I'm not really sure what it is. I went to quite a few games at Texas Stadium but I have not been out to the new stadium yet.

I remember meeting Mel Renfro at a Cowboys function several years ago and among the few questions I asked him was about a comment he made about the Texas Stadium crowd in a book I read.

Mel said that the Cotton Bowl crowd was rowdy and those were the fans with very little money and supported the team when they weren't the "Cowboys". He said once the team moved to Irving, those fans from the Cotton Bowl either couldn't afford the tickets or just couldn't get to the games as easily.

Maybe it had to do with the fact that when I was going to most of the Cowboys games, the Cowboys just weren't that good and the crowd wasn't responsive.

Coming from NY/NJ, and having been to countless Giants games, it's definitely disappointing. I've been to 2 games at Texas Stadium and the crowd was abysmal. I don't get how a crowd could be so lame overall. Seems like it's the same at Cowboys Stadium. When Giants Stadium is rockin', you feel it vibrate. The visiting team has it tough. The Cowboys visiting teams are basically unaffected by crowd noise. Our defense is good, but they could use some help and maybe have the crowd do their part at times.

I'd like to see Simms do a Denver game when Orton is hurt. Watching his kid play against Washington was brutal...:)

Rowdy fans have been priced out. It will affect the NY fans next year in their new stadium. In fact, Philly fans in the new stadium aren't as intimidating and loud as they were in the VET because those type of fans cannot afford to attend those games on a consistent basis. Cowboy and skins fans up here recently said that when they went to the games in Philly the last couple of years, they've had NO problems at all.

Honestly, does Simms have the same opinion of Pittsburgh. They aren't as intimidating nor loud on TV themselves. Just a bunch of people wearing black and gold swinging a yellow towel. Shall we do pom poms like the SEC to add to the atmosphere.:laugh2:

Who cares what an ex giant says. Our home field has always been that way, never stop us from being champions when the talent was there. Look at the Browns or the Raiders their rabid fans don't mean jack to the way they are playing.

I saw someone posted this yesterday on another message board and asked that person for the information and he never responded.

So if you could the station, name of the show and the day he was on please.

usually the rowdier fanbases are the angrier fanbases, angry about their real lives and their real situations and they let that anger overflow into passion towards their teams....at least this has to be a portion of the reason.

lol, what? So you're saying Cowboy fans are so happy they can't be bothered?

Our crowd is okay, but outside of the opener against the Giants (which we promptly lost, punishing them for their effort), I don't think the crowd has been very rowdy at all.

They said the crowd noise at the Saints/Patriots game reached 129 decibels, the sound of a jackhammer, so they must REALLY still be pissed about Katrina and their winning streak.

to be honest i think its probably the ticket costing. seems to be happening everywhere, we have the exact same problem at celtic park where the atmosphere for most games is dire as your average fan is being priced out of going, i know for example i am seriously considering giving up my ticket for next year as i just can't afford it. the price of beer in the stadium is probably affecting noise levels as well or maybe i'm just looking at it from a scottish perspective? at least you can get a beer at the game, our government outlawed it

Someone should ask Simms how the turf tasted in the old stadium. Homefield advantage don't mean a damn thing if you don't win the game. And that is on the players, coaches.

That same, or almost those same Texas "ticket holders" and "home field advantage" and not having an intimidating fanbase sure did'nt affect the teams of the 90's.

No different now.

that is a reason that makes sense.

Here In dfw though I see the same group of people in cowboys stadium as in texas stadium. Unfortunately I am sure many were priced out. When you sell a hot dog in december of 08 for 4.50 then turnaround and sell it in august of 09 for 7.50 that is insulting. Same stupid hot dog...three dollars more...

anyway, I dont see that as the problem here. the people who go to games down here plan on it and have the money.

I dont think the crowds here are as bad as people make it out to be. But I dont think they are great either. If you compare our stadium to most places we are louder, but if you compare it to the teams in the northeast we are not. There are times when it is equal but most of the time it is not.

I have never heard cowboys stadium or texas stadium approach the inensity of the crowds I used to hear at rich stadium in buffalo. Its night and day.

But I have been to the vet twice and the meadowlands once. I didnt think the vet was loud at all, it was just like texas stadium to me. The meadowlands was a little louder but it holds nearly 20000 more than most stadiums. I was also there for a jets-dolphins game so I imagine there is more energy in there for the giants.

The crowds have been fine this year. the panthers and seahawks crowds were terrible, flat terrible. That is the way it is here though. Fans of sports in this part of the country are nothing like the fans in the northeast. But they are similar to the ones in the west and southeast.

The crowds here are excellent for divisional games or games that are hyped up. The falcons crowd was excellent, the gaints crowd was excellent and same thing against the skins.

Any game played here at noon will have a bad crowd, its always been that way from my experience and from talking to people about it.

I think it is pretty low of simms to say what he said, IF HE SAID IT, I have yet to have anyone provide me with a link or any info of where he said it and I suspect the Original poster just copied this from the other board. Simms should take a look around the league and then revisit his thoughts. San Diego can barely sell out their stadium, neither can miami and these were playoff teams in good economies.

I havent heard a peep about seattle's 12th man in a couple of years because they are not a good team anymore...funny how that works isnt it.

I just think it all comes down to at least 50% of the fans in the stadiums in this area are 40 something parents with their kids and they treat sporting events like family entertainment, you never see them cheer or show any interest. That is what sapps the rest of us in there.

The Texas Rangers baseball team has the worst atmosphere of any pro sporting event I have ever been to, its beyond terrible. It feels like a kids birthday party is going on out there. I can not stand the crowd that attends rangers games.

anyway, long story short, I think it is wrong of simms to say this and it sounds like he is just looking for a way to say something negative about the stadium which is what every media member has gone away doing.....always finding a little something to complain about.

at the same time, the stadium should be about 50% louder than it is, but that middle aged parent group of fans that go to the stadium treat the place like a restaraunt....constantly up eating and drinking, talking during the game and just generally having a glad to be here attitude. At texas stadium I didnt have people like this around me, now I have a number of them. It sucks.

When your in the building though it is much louder than what you hear on TV. oh well. I am sick of defending the crowds here.

This is a silly, stupid argument. So New Orleans had 128 decibels of crowd noise, when crowd noise gets you a super bowl I'll be interested. Kansas City has the best crowd in the league, when is the last time they won a SB.

I've been to plenty of Cowboys games in Dallas and the crowd is loud when they need to be.

And there is something to be said about civility too, you get plenty of that in Cowboy games.

I though the "party decks" were suppossed to change this???

I know they had alot of problems with the decks on openning night and they had to cut back how many they sell now, but you would think the crowd noise would still be pretty loud.

I think too many of them are spending time in the bathroom ;)

(Won't post the link here, since it's NSFW. If you don't know what I am talking about, go to ******** and search for "Cowboys Fans Bathroom." Scroll down a bit. You'll know exactly what I am talking about.)

The Skins had a similar problem when they left RFK. Mostly due to the location and prices, FedEx started to alienate the blue-collar, stand-shakers and brought in the wine-and-cheese crowd.

see this is the reason I defend the crowd here. KC always gets sold as this great crowd. The reality is they can barely sell out their stadium. Last year they had 20.000 people at their last two games.

Im sorry but you cant be on the list of great home stadiums if that is all you can produce.

Dallas has some games like carolina where the crowd is just sapped and not into it, but never like what goes on in miami, kc, san diego, oakland, cincy..etc...

that is why it is wrong of simms to say what he said if he did.
