Did anybody else see Singletary's comments on Crabtree?

Man, I loved the guy after he berated that idiot Davis, but this put it over the top for me.

"I can't waste one moment looking around saying when is he coming. Michael Crabtree is at the back of my mind."

I 100% believe it when he says that. He is such a great football mind, and I love his complete team first, old school style.

I'm a big fan of Singletary, but he hasn't proven to be a great football mind yet. He *IS* an all-time great player. I do love his hard-nosed stance on football players.

I heard about his comments on Mike & Mike this morning. Singletary has always been a 'I say what I mean and I mean what I say' kinda guy. I respect the hell out of him and wish him the best of success as a head coach. Of course, it would be much better (for me) if he wasn't the 49ers' head coach. :( :)

You know what I meant, I meant his stance and I guess "moral views" of the game.

Not so much his strategy, game planning, etc. Because I can't say I know it well enough to comment on it.

yep, i wanted him in dallas as our defensive coordinator, was even willing for the cowboys to hire him as head coach over wade;
i think in 3 years that singletary will be one of the top young head coaches in the NFL.

His coaching style is better suited for the college game. I just don't think highly paid pro athletes will take his crap for very long, especially if he's the head coach calling players out publicly like he did Davis.

Crazy. That's exactly why I like him. So when a player is playing only for himself and not the team, it's still off limits to call him out. I see.

But it's ok for him to let his teammates down, just not ok for the coach to publicly hurt his selfish feelings.

I don't know if you think thats ok, or are commenting that's how players feel. But you called it crap so im assuming you don't like it, which is a shame.

Its not crap. Crap is what the young players of today expect. What Singletary does is called ACCOUNTABILITY. We could use a WHOLE lot more of it.

Is it 'crap' if it's the truth? Or is it simply a coaching philosophy which some players will not appreciate?

Exactly.

It's people like that guy, that makes players think its ok. Have gotten babied the minute they signed that contract, and loved up on by star struck fans who think they are so gaga good they don't need to worry about the team and encourage these individualistic attitudes.

exactly, couldnt agree more, I think wade finally sees that now, and is making himself, all of the coaches and players accountable, as well as the special teams department.

While one can certainly appreciate Singletary's hard nosed point of view, he hasn't been a HC long enough for one to truly evaluate whether HIS approach will work in the long run.

We'll see soon enough.

Don't all coaches say that about players that haven't signed and arent at camp?

I think the real problem is that they have a first round pick that isn't in training camp. And that's clearly a failure for the front office of that team.

You obviously didn't see the way he said it, and there was more than that, that he said, I just cant remember it word for word and don't want to paraphrase it and write something he didn't say.

I definitely see some uniqueness in Singletary's approach, but in terms of the STYLE that he represents, it has long been proven to be effective.

Vince Lombardi
Tom Landry
Bill Parcells
Bill Belicheat
Jimmy Johnson
even Tom Coughlin

All no nonsense kind of guys and big on discipline. It worked.

He's basically like an unproven Parcells type.

The Mavericks went for one of these hard-nose old school types when they hired Avery Johnson to coach him, and like Parcells, it quickly wore thin when results are not there.

Lombardi, Parcells, Johnson, and Coughlin I think are in the same mold.

The others were just kind of strictly business, not emotional the way Singletary is.

But clearly not being incredibly emotional has no effect to winning, as the best coach in the history of the game was also the most stoic.

The difference between those guys and Singletary is that they're not idiots. Singletary is.

I actually thought that Singletary was very fair to Crabtree in his comments. He noted that the young man had a career to concern himself with. I took that to mean that the coach understood the business concerns and the business side of things. At the same time, Singletary was only going to concern himself with players that are currently on the team. Very fair comments and at the same time had a no nonsense kind of tone to it.
