Singletary's PC

Back when we interviewed Singletary, he'd never even been a coordinator before and didn't have the Xs and Os knowledge to be a HC. It would've been a real stretch to hire a total unknown like him to run a playoff-ready team. By the time the Niners hired him, at least he'd been a DC for a year or two.

And I love how some people act like being a drill sergeant is all that matters in coaching. The truth is, plenty of "tough guy" head coaches have flamed out, just like every other style.
He was never their defensive coordinator. He's never been in charge of a defense.

He wasn't? I thought he did that for a year. Maybe it was the assistant head coach title they gave him.

Yup. He was still the linebackers coach.

His coaching style is better suited for the college game. I just don't think highly paid pro athletes will take his crap for very long, especially if he's the head coach calling players out publicly like he did Davis.

Thats what Im sayin. His schtick is lame. Reminds me of that tool Ditka. They are gonna suck so bad and he will be fired.

That's a great comparison. Singletary needs to find his Buddy Ryan.

He's a great motivational speaker. He can't coach for crap though. His strategies and gameplanning is among the worst in the league. IE: Playing the CB's 10 yards off Owens with no over the top help.

And they stunk (stink) so badly, they had little to lose and were probably willing to let him have a year or two of OJT while he figured things out. That wasn't the case with us.

I do love how some people act like being a drill sergeant is all that matters in coaching. The truth is, plenty of "tough guy" head coaches have flamed out, just like every other style.

Nobody is saying he's acting like a drill sgt or touch guy. If you can't lead you aren't going to win. Sometimes it does get more honey being nice. I think people are tired of coddling players. There is a time to kick ***. It's the reason Jimmy Johnson was so successful. He wasn't just a tough guy but boy did he have that part down.

Singletary is matter of fact about it. And he knows what it takes to be a player and a winner.

I agree with another poster. If we didn't have win now at all costs then Mike Singletary would have made a great HC for us. I'd love to have him as HC, Garrett as the OC and Wade as the DC.

Ah, my bad.

Anyway, hey, I love the guy like everyone else, especially those of us who remember him as a player. Loved the way he handled Vernon Davis that day. But he hasn't proven to be a good HC yet.

What do you mean? We did have a way. Simply hire him when we were looking for a new coach.

Instead we went with Wade, and while I actually do like Wade, I just can't contain my "affection" for the way Singletary runs his football team.

I think he's the type of guy where contracts, draft position, or state of birth, aren't going to matter in regards to where you are on the depth chart.

but we didn't get him. i understand we went in another direction but when we had a shot, i thought it was cool wish something could have been worked out, that's all.

That tool Ditka did what he promised he would do.... Chicago Bears win a Super Bowl. You can say Buddy Ryan, but Buddy Ryan, nor Ditka, did great without the other.

I'll predict that Singletary is successful. No one knows, of course, but I just get the feeling that there is something special about the guy. lets see.

Well, he can't actually coordinate a defense and has the reputation of not being an Xs and Os guy, which basically says to me that he's a glorified cheerleader. "Idiot" may be a little strong, but there were serious questions about his intellect back when he was a potential candidate for the Cowboys HC job.
It was his decision to let TO have a free release off the line of scrimmage when everyone and their dog knew not to do it.

Singletary's great football mind decided to single cover T.O. last season. How did that Lombardi-type decision work out for Mikie?

I think this guy was promoted to be the head coach far too soon. I also agree that he is best suited for college.

While his style might appeal to some fans. I wonder how many of them would enjoy it if they were working for the guy as a paid employee.

There was a mad scramble to line up with the coach people thought would be best for the Cowboys when Jerry was hiring last time. I thought Turner would have been better for Romo.

Until Singletary proves he can handle this, I sure didn't want a rookie head coach.

People who work hard, and are dedicated to what they're being paid millions to do under said employer, wouldn't be bother by the expectations put onto them.

Only lazy selfish paid employees would have issues, as they would be the ones getting berated.

Maybe Singletary isn't for you, to each his own.
