No, on 1st down, it might have been wise to run the ball, as opposed to come out throwing is what I think the point might be. We took a sack on 1st down. A negative play which forced events on 2nd. I also don't agree that we were ineffective running the ball. Denver ran the ball against us and that forced our defense to stay off balance. They ran for 103 yards on us but interestingly enough, we were more effective in our run game then they were against us. We ran for an average of 3.7 yards a carry against them, which is not excellent but it is certainly respectable. They ran for 3.3 against us but the difference is that they stuck with the run and we didn't. We pick up 3.7 yards on 1st down and we are in a very, very manageable down and distance on 2nd down, as opposed to 2nd and 16. I doubt Romo even throws that pass on 2nd down if we don't get sacked on 1st down. That, of course, is supposition on my part but I think the line of thought is a reasonable one.
Regardless, it's done and there is nothing we can do about it now.
