Good point about snaps varying by opponent. I was pleasantly surprised that Kazee was able to play that many snaps after his achilles injury less than a year ago.No surprises based on watching preseason games.
LVE & Jaylon are in the run defense package generally vs 2 WRs.
DL is a rotation. Not in flux per se.
The snaps will vary based on opponent.
- Strong Run Offenses might see different snap distributions.
Gregory needs to play more and I am sure glad they are paying Jaylon Smith all that money for 25pct snaps. If you want to know who the coaches think are your best players and gives us the best chance to win- look at the snap counts after each game.
Let’s look at last night’s defensive snap counts and what they tell us about improving this D:
SNAP COUNT NUMBERS
So….what does this tell us?
- Defensive line-
- DeMarcus Lawrence- 43 snaps- (66% of all def plays)
- Randy Gregory- 37 snaps (57%)
- Osa Odighuizua- 36 snaps (55%)
- Carlos Watkins- 30 snaps (46%)
- Brent Urban- 28 snaps (43%)
- Dorance Armstrong- 27 snaps (42%)
- Terrell Basham- 24snaps (37%)
- Quinton Bohannon- 20 snaps (31%)
- Bradley Anae-10 snaps (15%)
- Linebackers
- Micah Parsons- 51 snaps (78%)
- Keanu Neal- 50 snaps (77%)
- Jaylon Smith- 16 snaps (25%)
- LVE- 14 snaps (22%)
- Jabril Cox- 1 snap (1%)
- Secondary
- Trevon Diggs- 65 snaps (100%)
- Anthony Brown- 65 snaps (100%)
- Donovan Wilson- 55 snaps (85%)
- D Kazee -52 snaps (80%)
- Jourdan Lewis - 49 snaps (75%)
- Javon Kearse - 40 snaps (62%)
- M Canady - 2 snaps (3%)
1. The Cowboys feel better about having Parsons and Neal on the field than LVE and Jaylon.
2. The DL rotations are certainly in flux.
3. For all the ps hype about Nashon Wright and Jabril Cox, they played a grand total of 1 snap between them. That may change as the year progresses.
I dont care what Armstrong did in PS, dudes a scrub. If he is playing 40+ % of the snaps, thats 40+% of snaps we arent getting pressure from that side. Basham isnt much if any better. I really wish we got a legitimate #3 DE in the offseason. We only play starters 60-70 percent of snapsIf you want to know who the coaches think are your best players and gives us the best chance to win- look at the snap counts after each game.

And it hasn’t happened in a very long time.Im with you on that . In that final
Drive Dallas needed a DLineman to simply beat an OL and make a play. It didn’t happen
Like next week.Thx Bob. Snap counts for LVE and number 9 don't bode well for their future here. I bet Cox snaps steadily increase moving forward.
Heard this AM that Brady was only touched twice last night. Once was Parsons not sure what happened the other time. That wont cut it.I dont care what Armstrong did in PS, dudes a scrub. The problem we have is not having anyone better. Brown is currently the second best corner we have. Until that changes with one of the young guys developing, putting someone else in would be worse.Am I the only one who believes Anthony Brown played 65 more snaps than he should have?

He was also getting double and triple teamed. You should be upset with the guys who couldn't take advantage of that.Gregory played 57% and was able to get 1 assisted tackle and pick up a ball.
Glad we waited 5 years for that.

Most surprised with the lack of playing time by Cox.
Trade LVE or Jaylon and get Cox more playing time now, the sooner the better.
Give Wright some plays, unbelievable.
How so?If you think AB was bad against AB. AB would have gone for 200 yds against Wright.
