Wisdom tooth removal is an interesting procedure. Although I was conscious during the surgery, I felt no pain and was completely unaware of the passage of time. It's as if I was floating in some ethereal realm, and observing events from a great distance. Then, in seemingly very little time, the procedure was over.
I had four wisdom teeth removed about two years ago.
Beforehand I expressed my extreme dislike for needles, knowing they would put that IV of numbing whatevers in me, the stuff that puts you out as you described but which keeps you conscious.
So, they double-dipped me....I got the "laughing gas" for a good ten minutes before the procedure. The guy told me to count down from 10 to 0 but when I got to 0 he just kept about his business of prepping and left the mask on me. I thought it was a mistake but I didn't care - I was at that time feeling ****ing marvelous, easily the best high of my life (lol).
At that point he swabbed my arm and put the needle in. Shortly after that I was completely under.
Seemingly seconds later, they were waking me up and pulling the gauze out of my mouth - I was already seated in a wheelchair, and they wheeled me out to a waiting room where I chilled until I could walk straight again.
Don't worry about it - I found it actually kind of pleasant, especially with the pills they give you afterward!
It was a slighly painful yet pretty pleasant week of recovery.
