I got a little nitrous and then ktfo, since I was getting all 4 at once. My face looked like a pumpkin for several days after.

They give you this syringe with a hooked tip that you use after eating. You fill it with water, then shoot it into the cavity left by your tooth and see little bits of deliciousness from your last meal running down the drain.

:D

Yes, I flossed all the time. But, if you read about the Waterpik it tells you that flossing can actually damage and tear up your gums. A Waterpik will not do that and it's proven to be 95% more effective for cleaning between the teeth and under the gums where brushing and flossing will not do.

Negatory. You even made up a percentage... that's cute.

Wisdom tooth removal is an interesting procedure. Although I was conscious during the surgery, I felt no pain and was completely unaware of the passage of time. It's as if I was floating in some ethereal realm, and observing events from a great distance. Then, in seemingly very little time, the procedure was over.

I had four wisdom teeth removed about two years ago.

Beforehand I expressed my extreme dislike for needles, knowing they would put that IV of numbing whatevers in me, the stuff that puts you out as you described but which keeps you conscious.

So, they double-dipped me....I got the "laughing gas" for a good ten minutes before the procedure. The guy told me to count down from 10 to 0 but when I got to 0 he just kept about his business of prepping and left the mask on me. I thought it was a mistake but I didn't care - I was at that time feeling ****ing marvelous, easily the best high of my life (lol).

At that point he swabbed my arm and put the needle in. Shortly after that I was completely under.

Seemingly seconds later, they were waking me up and pulling the gauze out of my mouth - I was already seated in a wheelchair, and they wheeled me out to a waiting room where I chilled until I could walk straight again.

Don't worry about it - I found it actually kind of pleasant, especially with the pills they give you afterward! :) It was a slighly painful yet pretty pleasant week of recovery.

No offense to Artie or anyone in the dental field, but why is it that so many dentists seem creepy? My regular dentist and the assistants that work there are all cool and normal, but the dentist at the place that did my wisdom teeth removal had that classic 'creepy dentist' aura about him. The way he talked, the way he seemed to be enjoying it a liiiiiiitle too much, his body language, everything.

When I had my wisdom teeth taken out they had to give me two shots because I woke up when they were working on the last one. It was apparently sitting on the nerve. At the time I was around 225lbs and my mother was maybe 115. The look on her face when I came walking out, I use that term loosely, was priceless. She was thinking how in the world am I going to get him to the car. :laugh2:

I was in the 8th grade. My wisdom teeth were in deep. I puked my guts out for hours from swallowing my blood. The only good thing was the nurse had to help me to the bathroom because I was so woozy. At least that is what I told her. :D

That was a strange experience.

Are you still feeling the effects of the drug?

Quick, read my novel now. Perhaps it will make more sense.:)

are you ok? I mean, is your face still there?

yes, I'm genuinely concerned

You know, it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The worst part was listening to the Dr. crack my teeth in half. Other than that though, everything went fine and I'm just lounging around popping vicodin. So, have no worries my face is still around. :D

I actually didn't do nitrous and an IV anesthetic, they just gave me shots to numb the area, so I was never really out of it. I am going to pick it back up soon though, I'm just making a pretty significant move in a few weeks and that's been eating up all of my time.

I'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled tomorrow Artie, what should I expect?

Simple.
Do not smoke and try not to talk.
If you do you will be risking getting a dry socket.
Dry sockets only occur in your mandible. It's a dull pain but believe me it hurts.
Eat soft foods and take your pain killers.

The surgery itself is not long...varies by how many molars are removed.
If you have more questions PM me.

My dentist always tells me how great my teeth are, but I need to have some work done because I've got a loose tooth that has lost almost all bone, but I can't afford the $2,300 to do it! Gosh they charge so much... :banghead:

The sound thing can be a little disturbing. I just got a mole surgically removed from my eyelid with only local anesthetic. I didn't feel anything, i was actually having a nice conversation with the doctor the entire time. He had to make a number of cuts on my eyelid and stitch it back together. But, i could hear him cutting my eyelid with surgical scissors, snip.....snip.....snip.....snip..... It was one of the worst sounds i've ever heard, knowing he was cutting me up.

BTW, glad to hear everything went well for you.

Here, do some research on your own and find out what I'm saying,,,OK, cutie!

http://www.amazon.com/Waterpik-Ultra-Dental-Water-Jet/dp/B000GLRREU

Are you serious? He just posted an article by the Mayo clinic that clearly stated flossing is superior to a water pick. What does posting an amazon ad put forth by the manufacturers prove? Of course, they are going to make claims. Their claims don't have to be substantiated. Did you know that? The FDA doesn't regulate water picks. I can create a device and sell it on Amazon claiming it's 99% more effective than flossing based on studies I performed. It means nothing.

I'm not a dentist but I am a physician. And I have patients bring in crap from GNC and show me the back of the label saying how this pill cures such and such because the back of the label said so. When I see this, I get really upset that the FDA chose not to regulate the herbal and diet supplement category of products since anyone can make junk and then make false claims and get away with it. There are so many products that don't work and are unsubstantiated but are allowed to be sold on shelves.
