So doing drugs and beating the crap out of someone are almost identical?

You get 4 games for drugs and steroids, but only one more game for slapping your cleats to someone's face, what should get you charged and arrested. Hmmm, does anyone else think that is really freakin ridiculous? Seriously, stop and think about that!

He should've been out atleast half a season, if not all. Precedent or no precedent.

Naw, 5 games is adequate... the only way I would have agreed with a whole season was if his actions had caused Andre to go on IR... but unless things have changed today, the last I heard Gurode will be available for the Iggles game...

What Haynesworth did was disgusting, it was the actions of a punk, but 5 games, along with the loss of pay for those 5 games, is a pretty heavy punishment...

Yeah, it's ridiculous. But we are the Cowboys. Seems typical to me. This guy should have been suspended the whole season, and how about some criminal charges?

I'm sorry but just because Gurode can play next week doesn't lessen what this gutless jerk did. It's the intent and what he was trying to do, not the fact that Gurode is tough enough to handle it.

Plus, had he done a lot less than this to an official he'd be out the season.

I know it's your opinion, but there is no way that is right. You mean the league tries to make examples out of guys who do touchdown dances, fining and suspending. And the No Fun League is always trying to send a message, and let players get the idea of what will and won't be tolerated. If I am a dirty player, and they are out there, then they know now they could go out and brutally hurt someone and get no charges, a fine, and 5 weeks off. That money means nothing to him. Most people will never see that kind of money, it's just maintaining his lavish lifestyle. It should absolutely be half a season, and I do feel charges should've been filed, as minimal as they may be. I am taught that I am resonsible for my actions, regardless of the outcomes. The fact Andre didn't have to go in IR or to the emergency room or anything has absolutely no bearing on the situation. His actions could have just as easily put him there as they didn't!

He might be a saint (or a Titan! LOL), and he may never do it again, but the fact is he did, and the league missed he mark AGAIN!

But watch, someone will get suspended before the end of the season for something ridiculous. Mark my words!

I am just glad Andre is ok, not hurt worse, and he can play, so we can beat the c-rap out of the Eagles!

GO COWBOYS!

EXACTLY! AMEN!

Anyone remember Orlando Brown? Bean Bag incident? He shoved a ref.....I repeat, SHOVED! Not give him 30 stitches without his ref hat on, not with him LAYING ON THE GROUND!

5 games w/o pay is a joke. This guy has millions in the bank, he is NOT gonna miss those paychecks.

He should be in jail. PERIOD.

a 3rd offense for drugs. that's pretty much a last resort after being placed in diversion and testing positive 2 more times after that.

Hey, I know, let's have him castrated...

Preferably with a dull knife...

That'll show him...

Seriously, I don't know exactly what he's making, but he's a top player in the league, so I wouldn't be surprised if his fine of 5 game paychecks amounted to a million or so... and no matter how much money he might have in the bank, I have a notion that'll catch his attention-- and more important, that of other players around the league...

Like I said, the only way I would have considered a season-long suspension to be a fair punishment is if the Boys had been denied Andre's services (IOW, if he had to go on IR) for the rest of the year... but Gurode will be back playing long before that 5 game suspension is over, in fact I get the notion he's gonna play against the Iggles...

I also thought that Haynesworth should get a lengthier suspension that somebody who runs afoul of the drug program, and he did...

Finally, I think that most of you pontificating about season-long suspensions would be considerably less bloodthirsty if this had happened to a player on another team... Haynesworth acted like a punk, the whole nation is on his ignorant a** right now, he's been humiliated (justifiably, of course), and he's gonna lose a HUGE chunk of change... really, the suspension is the least of the considerations, since the Titans clearly don't have any playoff aspirations this year...

Like I said, that's good enough for me...

He's losing under $200,000 for the fine. I think closer to $175,000 or so.

He got just one more game than drug suspensions....and like a previous poster pointed out, that's usually not after a first offense.

There goes that Mercedes he had his eye on... so you see, it IS a major punishment to him... :D

Seriously, I'd be surprised if his base pay for this year was as low as 600k, which is what you're suggesting here-- unless he signed a new deal this past offseason, so he had a signing bonus already banked... generally speaking, players of his caliber sign a deal with a big signing bonus and low base pay the first year, but in subsequent years of the deal, their bases are somewhat larger (unless there are split bonuses involved)...

Which is my longwinded way of saying I'm not calling you a liar, just that I assumed that he'd be making more in base salary this year than that... but until yesterday, I never paid any particular attention to Albert Haynesworth or the Titans, so I'm not speaking as an authority on the subject... perhaps Adam JT13 will read this thread, and give us the breakdown on exactly how much the fine will work out to...

I just heard on ESPN that Upshaw is going to appeal it

Also that the Tenn police have contacted the Cowboys organization and told them that they were ready to proceed if Gurode wants to press charges but he needs to let them know.

They also said that this suspension is gonna cost A.H around 500,000

thats a good sum for him to lose, now Gurode needs to press charges...

I'm not quite sure what your point is? Are you saying it's sad that a player only gets a 4 game suspension after testing positive a 3rd time? It would seem to me that this would contradict your earlier point, that a drug offence nearly equating a more violent act such as Haynesworth's is injust. It takes 3 drug offences to get 4 games and only 1 violent conduct offence like Haynesworth's to get 5 games. This strikes me as being a reasonable balance of punishment.

And what was his intent, murder? I dont think so. I think 5 games is a good time, IMO its not much different than punching someone because it has the same intent.

Had he lost an eye or not i think 5 games is about right. Maybe one or two more but not the whole season.
