So doing drugs and beating the crap out of someone are almost identical?

What was Michael Irvins punishment for slicing up one of his teammates.

I don't think the league could do anything to him, because it was not during a game or anything, but did the Cowboys fine or suspend him?

I think the penalty is severe enough, and I really don't give a crap anymore...there are more important things going on around us than a thug kicking a guy in the head...get over it.

Hopefully, this entire thing will disappear in a couple of days...if not, maybe the mods can help us...everyone's given his opinion by now.

Giving it 10 times in every thread doesn't make you right.

Here is my question,, Say Ray Lewis bust thru the line, sacks Farve,, bends downs, takes his helmet off and kicks him in the face. Does he get 5 games? I would bet he would get the rest of the season,, or banishment. The crime is the same, but because it was a relatively "low man" on the nfl totem pole and an offensive lineman, the guy only gets 5 games. What he did was a crime, a brutal attack on another person. Think about this, T.O. got 4 games last year cause he said his QB choked and he parked in the Coach's parking spot. Yea, TO is one of the real bad guys in this league,, but people that try to take someone out , perhaps end thier career, only get 5 games. It's sick and the NFL should be ashamed of themselves.

5 games w/o pay is a joke. This guy has millions in the bank, he is NOT gonna miss those paychecks.

He should be in jail. PERIOD.
he may not, but I guarantee the wife and kids aren't happy about missing damn near 200K in the bank. I'm sure he'll feel it. The life of a football player, his next game could be his last.

I'm sorry to have to agree with you - had this been a higher profile (IE bigger revenue generator) then I think the league would have responded differently. There's ALOT that goes on in the trenches that isn't even flagged, but this was obvioulsy after the whistle and intended to injure Gurode.

Time to move along and focus on Philthy...

The reason, IMO, that the suspension isn't enough is because I heard his rap sheet recited on Total Access tonight.

He's got a pretty bad history with the Titans.

If he snapped, with no prior history, I'd be ok with the suspension. But that's not the case.

Anything less than 8 games is a joke. Therefore, the new commissioner is a comedian.

The difference is that the Eagles imposed that suspension. The league suspended Haynesworth. I think 5 games is fair. For example, in hockey that would be roughly the equivalent of 25 games, which is the kind of punishment you see getting doles out for similarly violent acts.

Apparently so.

That's why I chose the drugs (in my day) as opposed to the violence.

Love, not war.........peace brother.

What is the statute of limitations for whatever the Nashville PD would call this offense? I think Andre should file charges about 30 minutes before Haynesworth's next home game that he would be active. The more this also hurts the team maybe they will help get the point accross to him.

Could you give some details on his rap sheet?

This is close to what I was expecting. I was guessing 6 games and a 50k to 75k fine and I still think that is what it should have been. Cost this fool a quarter mil or more and it will get his attention. These guys make a lot of money but the IRS gets a third of it and their agents get 10% so they are getting a little more than half of their pay (something between 60 and 65 percent) to take to the bank. A quarter mil is a lot of money to a guy like him; he's not making QB money after all.

AS far as I have heard all he got was the suspension; he did not get a fine (please correct that if that info is wrong). So with what his reported (on the radio) salary is he will lose about 100k out of his pocket because the rest would have gone to the IRS and his agent anyway. I think they should have strapped a heavy fine on top of that suspension where he money would all come directly out of his very own pocket.

Also, I am normally against getting the law involved in sports. I don’t want someone arrested every time there is a fight on the field (or court or ice or whatever) but this was well outside the bounds of what can be allowed. As I understand it right now it is up to Andre Gurode as to whether or not to file charges. I think he should but it is his decision.

The problem with comparing this to most hockey incidents is that most of the times those are nonintentional or both men are trying to beat on eachother.

Taking the time to remove the helmet before you start to vent your anger, or what ever term you perfer, seems to say your intent was to injure and as severly as possible. Gurode is lucky that nothing more serious happened, having a 300+ pound person stomp on your unprotected head can't have too many favorable outcomes.

Cant you get 4 games for taking the wrong kind of legal supplement?

I dont think Gurode will press charges but I hope they make Haynesworth get himself evaluated. He said he has kids, what happens if he snaps?

I was talking about the intentional incidents (Tie Domi's elbow, Dale Hatcher's cheap shot, etc.)

I just heard on ESPN that Upshaw is going to appeal it

Also that the Tenn police have contacted the Cowboys organization and told them that they were ready to proceed if Gurode wants to press charges but he needs to let them know.

They also said that this suspension is gonna cost A.H around 500,000

thats a good sum for him to lose, now Gurode needs to press charges...

You must have been watching what I saw, that is exactly the facts as I heard them.

Salary for the year = $650,000

after taxes(based on the 1/3 you mentioned) = $433,333

minus the 10% for agent or whatever = $390,000

now minus 5 games @ $40,625 per game or $203, 125 = $186, 875 net for the season

That is roughly half his net take home. He still takes home a lot of money, but it does pinch him a little. Of course a good accountant could write off the pay loss due to suspension.

He's losing under $200,000 for the fine. I think closer to $175,000 or so.

Hadn't read down to see if someone corected me on this, but I am sure they did! lol

I did see where the initial number was wrong, and it is closer to $500,000.

If it was a legal supplement, then it wouldn't be wrong to take it. :)

I get what you are saying. A few years ago, QB Jim Miller of the Bears took an over the counter supplement/medication that any person off the street could walk in a buy. It had an ingredient that was banned by the NFL. He got suspended for 4 games. First time offenders for taking improvement enhancement drugs get an automatic suspension as opposed to drug users who get 3 chances.
