So having digested the trade for 24 hours

At 60 million for 3 guys at DT seems excessive in the cap world, but whatever JJ wants.
JJ can restructure contracts and kick the can down the road or pretend like we have no cap space.

What do you think he will do???

Don't fall for the banana in the tail pipe.

Williams is a very good DT. We have not had a DT of his caliber in quite a bit of time. Now with Clark and Odi, the Cowboys have a pretty good DT rotation, something many of us have been clamoring for since who knows when.

The cost seems a bit high but it was always going to cost you a premium to get a top notch DT. So while I bristle at the cost, I can at least understand it.

Where I struggle is that this just seems more of the kind of haphazard roster building we see constantly from Jerry. How did he go from telling us in August he really liked our defensive talent assembled and that they were happy with what they added at DT to in a span of two months, making two major trades to fill a clear hole that any sane person knew was a problem when they broke camp. And when he finally realizes what most of us already saw, he's already dug himself a big hole that will be tough to get out from this year. In all reality, as much as I like Williams, we should be probably looking to the future and parlaying these top picks into a rebuild. We made a major trade as if we were a legit contender. We are not. This smells of Jerry overvaluing what he built yet again.

So I guess this is a longwinded way of saying, I still don't how I feel about the trade. LOL.
Jerry doesn’t plan. He reacts and most times too slowly. I like the trades but the trades create more questions such as cap issues. Is there a plan for how to handle that? Not likely. This trade makes us better and if we pull off a good draft next year it could be a part of a pretty goid roster, except there’s so many unanswered question about some of this years best players even being on the roster next year. Is there a plan to keep some replace others? Not likely. Most likely it’s just wing it and see what happens. What has frustrated me for years with Jerry is not an overal plan, draft and sign guys that fit that plan. Hire coaches and staff that fit that plan

To me the most logical steps considering cap implications is move on from one of those DT’s and which is simple when you look at cap implications. One saves money, one cost money to cut and Williams isn’t going anywhere

I am fine with the trade. He is the best DT they’ve had since La’roi glover. Literally over 20 years.

I don’t think it’ll change anything this year. It’s too late.

But it will be good the next 2-3 years. The FO better put the rest of the pieces in place needed on defense for next season. They need to be aggressive in FA and land two good players with their first. If they do. The defense could be completely transformed for next year.
Ratliff wasn't a bad DT he was a 2x all pro and 4x pro bowler

Clark can be restructured to what his actual current value is.

He can be cut for nothing and no money goes to Clark. So basically Clark is similar to a UFA.

We can tell his Agent we would love to keep Clark at a fair market value moving forward.

His agent can check the market and report back to what they believe is fair. Then we can decide to resign him at a fair price or let him walk.

He is not worth $20M a year in my opinion, but he is still second best DT on our roster.

Yea, I don’t think anyone is questioning Williams talent level.

But I think we probably gave up too much. And he only has 2 years left on his contract .

This trade still looks too much like Jethro is trying to save this season.

Like 25 years.
We did OK when BP got his guys in and chose Canty Ratlif and company. Glover was a top DT as well
But since those guys left we have been soft and slow in the middle of the DL
and the idiotic fascination with Marinelli's 'quick twitch' crap

Yes, the exact name I was going to mention. Glover was the last time we had someone of his caliber. Ratliff and Irving were fun for a little while too, but not the same.

I just posted the presser of Quinnen Williams, and one of the media guys told him that Jerry said the Cowboys had been trying to trade for Quinnen since the week before this season started, during the Micah trade to GB, but that the Jets were not interested in trading away Quinnen Williams at the time...until now.

So Jerry actually had been trying since before the season started to upgrade our interior D-line. All of you bashing Jerry are actually wrong. Just plain wrong.
Jerry needs to continue to make smart decisions on this midseason defensive rebuild, this a great start to improving this team. Their needs to be a strategy or plan to bring in more talent around Williams as well as quicker decision making on extending top players and better use of the salary cap. I love the trade Williams is a tremendous cornerstone type player at defensive tackle.

Kenny Clark is guaranteed nothing in 2026. Looks like he will be the odd man out unless Osa gets traded during the offseason.

He can be cut for free, but it saves us almost exactly what Williams makes. So basically cap wise you’d be getting Williams for no extra cap cost. Osa 2026 contract is guaranteed so Clark is the only logical one to cut. Then we need to add Steele and Diggs to the cut list, as well as probably 5/6 more. If they ain’t part of fixing things then move them out the door. We need real chsnge

I've written off this season and view this as an early start to FA. The trade will look much better if/when we add another good defensive player before the draft, where we still have 2 firsts.

Honestly, I think the old gambling Jerry is back. The one from the 80s and 90s. It appears the Parsons trade has given him new motivation to prove he can still GM with the young cats. Notice he was so excited he couldn't wait for the official date to talk about it. I don't think he's anywhere close to being done. IMO, we can expect to see him add at least one, maybe two, high-level free agents AND be very active during the draft. Perhaps converting/trading one or both 1st round picks to recoup 2nd and 3rd round picks.

In other words, fasten your seatbelts.......Jerry is about to show us he still has it (lol)
He has nothing. He is an ineffective NFL franchise owner. He is not innovative building the roster. He lacks the managerial courage to follow through with any kind of plan. In the salary cap era there is an owner that has managed to get his team into the Super Bowl three times, with three different head coaches, and three different starting quarterbacks. It is doable. But it takes a dynamic person in charge. Jerry Jones is not that kind of person.

None of us needs to fasten our seatbelts.

It was a great trade if Jerry goes all-in for the next two seasons. If this was his only big move, then it wasn’t necessary.
it would make no sense to make this trade and then not sign and be aggressive in FA. Jerry knows this is not enough to fix this defense. if you get this DT it’s to maximize in Daks window.

We have 2 day 1 picks, no day 2 picks, and 2 day 3 picks..

5 draft picks total isn't much to work with.
