So having digested the trade for 24 hours

Williams is a very good DT. We have not had a DT of his caliber in quite a bit of time. Now with Clark and Odi, the Cowboys have a pretty good DT rotation, something many of us have been clamoring for since who knows when.

The cost seems a bit high but it was always going to cost you a premium to get a top notch DT. So while I bristle at the cost, I can at least understand it.

Where I struggle is that this just seems more of the kind of haphazard roster building we see constantly from Jerry. How did he go from telling us in August he really liked our defensive talent assembled and that they were happy with what they added at DT to in a span of two months, making two major trades to fill a clear hole that any sane person knew was a problem when they broke camp. And when he finally realizes what most of us already saw, he's already dug himself a big hole that will be tough to get out from this year. In all reality, as much as I like Williams, we should be probably looking to the future and parlaying these top picks into a rebuild. We made a major trade as if we were a legit contender. We are not. This smells of Jerry overvaluing what he built yet again.

So I guess this is a longwinded way of saying, I still don't how I feel about the trade. LOL.
I know how I feel.

Jerry Jones just paid $5,000 on rims, to put on a $750 1984 Toyota Tercel.

Again... what other 3 win teams (after playing 9 games) in history can you think of that are dropping 1st and 2nd rd picks on a 28 year old lineman?

It's just a move to stay "good enough", because Jerry would rather have 10 seasons of 9-7 with a wildcard loss, then 5 really bad season but 1 or 2 where you had a legit shot at a SB.

He sells hope. And 9-7 or 7-9 is good enough for that.

Our failures at acquiring an impact DT like this make the trade more palatable for me.

This GM defies logic every year, so while I'm happy about finally having decent DTs, I have zero trust that Jerry will do what's needed to finish fixing the defense.

For real. At least it’s the bye week and the team is desperate with their backs against the wall

It is likely too little too late for 2025, but they may get a jolt from these moves and start to “believe” lol
Exactly it depends on how you look at the rest of the season. If the offense gets it back together and we can finally stop the run then it's giving us some hope. Not playoff hope but next year hope if they fix the secondary.

I'm shocked you think he is only "very good". He is top 3 in the league at his position.

A second and a 1 is fair compensation. Getting rid of a slug in Mazi is bonus.

I actually thought of you when we made the trade thinking you would be happy because I know you have long lamented that we didn't have a difference maker in the middle...now we do and you are still stuck....lol

There would be zero Dead Cap to keep him. His current contract has zero guarantees.
If you lower his cap number you push out money that is eventually dead cap. If you left his contract as is then it’s already factored into next years cap, but you add Williams hit. The point is moving on cost nothing and clears enough cap to cover Williams. Then you go into next year basically were you are now on the cap

You redo his contract. Basically cutting him and resigning him. It costs nothing.

Yes. He is not worth $20M per season if when cut no one will pay him that.
Probably so. But why would he take a pay cut when he could just go sign somewhere else and get another signing bonus? There’s no incentive for him to take a cut in pay. It’s not like he’s been here his whole career and has ties here. He could go home and get just as much money as we’d give

He will end up taking a pay cut no matter what.

He can decide if he wants to get paid X in Dallas or X somewhere else.

What? Why would you say that?

Players of his caliber are what leads to super bowls.
I think i already wrote why.

And i also think you are exaggregating it. DT for sure is important. But so are other positions too.

A team is able to compete when they are good on every position. And especially good throughout a whole group. One great player is way to easy to be schemed out by the oposing team. You need to build by groups and there be good or better at every slot.

Dont make the mistake to think DT is the way to the promised land just because we lacked one for at least a decade. The guy aint a one tech anyways. We now have a ok rotation at DT with him, clark and osi. But only if osi starts to play better.

We have essentially no pass rusher, one idiot aka sam, kneeland is mäh, #41 is what he is, not nfl ready. Our defensive backfield is a joke. Besides bland, and only if he is allowed to play the slot, i see nobody that is worth keeping. LBs are a Desaster.

So now we spent a 1st a 2nd and essentially another first rounder with Mazi on an all pro dt that will be surrounded by 9 medicore to bad players. Id rather have a good DT with that 2nd rounder and one more good player with that 1st rounder.

This is ot the way to build a competitive roster!

Anyway... i could puke in front of my TV everytime those two idiots give interviews.

GO JONESES!!!!!

Who cares about the bolded. Listening to anything Jerry says is problem #1. He has no idea how to build a football team. He has no interest in doing anything other than selling his brand. He will never say any situation is anything other than good to great. Ignore Jerry. Go by what you see. This team stinks and still has holes and our defense is horrible. But we are getting better and that is what matters. Baby steps. The goal is a SB and we are closer than we were last week. With 2 1st round picks next year and more cap space than the Jones Boyz or their lackeys will tell you we have, we can mold this team into a winner if we get a couple of lucky breaks and spend the money. Let's see if Overshown gets healthy and Revel looks like a player and if Logan Wilson can still tackle like he did a couple of years ago. The future is brighter than the present IMO and the building blocks are there if the moron and his moron son stay out of the way

He is not a FA. He would get released if they do not want to pay his cap hit. So a trade, but who trades for the price tag, other than Jerry.
why trade clark? he has decent contract and we should keep him. we just fixed DAT and have depth, why get rid of it.
he has two more years....and if we end up releasing him, then there is no dead cap.

Good question. I am not familiar with how the NFL evaluates that. If Dallas cuts him, as his salary next year is not guaranteed, do we get a comp pick if someone signs him? I am guessing no.
I don't think we get a comp pick....he is under contract for two more years. his numbers are decent. why get rid of a player when we just fixed DT problem we have had for 20 years.

These trades will not resolve how terrible this team plays. This team is garbage and they play like it. This season is a wash.

It was a wash before it even started.

I am hopeful, that Jerry actually puts a complete team together this off season, that actually gives us a chance.
