On my trip to Boston next month, I'll be flying on a first class ticket. It's the first time in my life that I'll ever pay the extra bucks for first class. I just got frustrated at being so uncomfortable on a plane, so I spent the extra money.

However, I'm told there are other perks. Is this true? I have a layover in Chicago. Do airports have special first class lounges? Someone said there's also a quick, first-class security line. Really? If there is, I'll use it. My ticket cost a lot more. Might as well use the perks. Do I also get to make out with the cutest stewardess?

Awesome my friend. As really you also get a great meal like a great steak! Lucky you!

If you have a platinum Amex card, you get in special lounges for "free". Can also sign up for TSA pre-check.

I did 1st class once, when you travel first class, the flight is not long enough...lol

Congratulations! If the airline you're flying uses Chicago as a hub, then, most likely, they will have a lounge. Access to the lounges is typically restricted to club members and first class (and, business class, if flying internationally).

Most airport security areas have separate lines for TSA pre-approved travelers, first/business class and everyone else.

Depending upon length of flight, you probably be served a decent meal and free drinks.

Have fun

You should get the airline lounge automatically.
That has free drinks and light food fare in it.

You get to board 2nd.

In flight you get a meal. You get free drinks.

You get off first.

You get your first piece of luggage free.

You generally only get lounge access on international flights on first class.

The majority of the time I fly I get upgraded to 1st class. I don't buy a first class ticket. I pay a normal price and with my status I get upgraded. This is through Delta, so YMMV with other airlines.

I don't get the use of Sky Club just because I fly 1st class. It's an extra cost. I don't use it for that reason.

Obviously your seat is bigger and if you recline you're not intruding on the person behind you. Sometimes you get a bed, or a seat that reclines so much it might as well be a bed.

Usually I would get TSA PreCheck by flying 1st class, but not always. I went ahead and registered and paid the money for the PreCheck so I always have it. I think it cost me $85 and it's good for 5 years.

You do get to board early. Usually they will serve you drinks (to include booze) and snacks before the rest of the passengers board. If they're running behind they won't do that.

Shorter flights they will serve you a bigger selection of snacks and drinks. They will do this even if they don't serve drinks/snacks in coach.

Longer flights they will give you a choice of meals like they used to do in the old days of flying. One of the best omelets I ever had was on a flight from Puerto Rico to Atlanta. It was really good. They will still come around and offer you an expanded snack selection and more drinks.

You used to get all the movies for free, but Delta now has the studio on demand feature and you can watch it for free through their Wi-Fi. I normally download to my tablet from Netflix and watch those programs.

You are allowed more bags to be checked free, and I think the weight allowance is increased. I'm not sure about that.

You get your checked bags quicker.

And an STD if you plan on hooking up with a stewardess

Great info and thanks for sharing. But I gotta ask, how do you constantly get bumped up to first class?

I just returned from a 2-week trip to China. Unfortunately, it was for business so I didn't have much time to work the rice fields, skin a cat or catch any cool diseases to bring back home. I flew first class on Virgin Atlantic and I would do it again today if asked. I felt like I was sitting @ home in my recliner. It was that comfortable. Actually, it was almost better than home because I didn't have the wifey there talking my ear off. :p If you ever get the chance to fly VA...do it.

I fly a lot. About 125-130k miles a year. I usually get up to a Delta Diamond level so I have a good chance of getting upgraded.

surprised they have not upgraded you on some flights if you fly a reasonable amount.

early boarding, less trouble with carry on. 1st class lounge.
if you want to hit on stewardess, fly singapore airlines business/1st to asia or within asia.
