So much for Jermaine Johnson at 24

Maybe so but the expectation/value of the DE position is driven by one stats .....sacks There's a reason it's the 2nd highest paid position behind QB. Again way to risky for me ..........I'd much rather replace DLaw or Gregory with mid-vet. That way know what you're getting.......no guessing if you're drafting the next Taco or JT Watts.
DE position has a huge learning curve, outside of those special top 5-10 talents. It's very possible you don't see much impact until yr 2 or 3. I understand the need to replace DLaw, but it has to be more long-term thinking. Rather take an upside player after rd 1.

After Taco bust, there's no way in hell I'd use a 1st on DE unless it generational talent and I have a top 5 pick. Selecting one at 24???????? Way, Way too risky for my blood.
I mean, TJ Watt was there for Dallas. The lesson is never draft a DE who runs a 4.8 40, and has zero hand fighting technique or pass rush moves.

I like the way Kinnard has been working this week, and I think he's OK at RT. At #24, starting to think Dallas should take the best OL on the board regardless of position.

I see Kinnard as a lesser version of Green. I think Green has pro bowl potential at G and can kick outside if you needed him to be a swing tackle for a few games.

I see the same with Kinnard just a little less talented and probably gets beat more at RT. I would NOT draft him in the 1st.

It's a hard position to evaluate coz so much their expectation are centered around sacks. Take a DE in 1st round see how fast fans/poster start expecting double-digit sacks and if he's not producing them by 2nd year, guess what.......he's a bust. I'm saying I wouldn't draft one, just not with 1st at the near the of the round. If I need a starter, I'd much rather sign a mid-tier free agent ( proven record ) and draft a potential starter 2nd or 3rd round. JMO

It’s a hard transition to the pros but honestly it’s not overly complicated to find the 1st round caliber prospects. Size/length, + athlete and + production at a somewhat legit program. If they check those boxes and give me a solid 40 / 3 cone I’m in.

It’s perfectly fine to be afraid of a bust but it can literally happen at every position. You draft DE, LTs, etc in the 1 bc they cost a fortune in FA and you get them cheap for 5 years if you hit.

Ok so Kinnard is not that guy for you, so which OL would you take if Green n Linderbaum aren't available around #24?

If Ickey, Neal, Cross, Green and Linderbaum are all gone I’m out on OL at 24. The small school OTs scare me.

Give me whatever stud fell at a different position and let’s roll. I’m not forcing OL at 24 just because our LG stinks. Hopefully we get a serviceable vet in FA.

I hear you on not forcing a OL pick. Adding another talented, front 7, player to pair with Parsons should be at the top of list.

100%…if all 5 of those OL dudes are gone and teams reach for QBs and WRs like they always do I’d bet money that Johnson, Karlaftis, Ebiketie, Lloyd or Dean would be available. As of now I’d be happy with any of those guys.

Yes, I'd be on board with one of those guys.

I think the expectation from Cowboy fanbase, is a 1st rd pick is a plug and play impact starter. One that needs little development, but is good right away. Depends where you are selecting, but it also depends which position as some have steep learning curves. Add in the fact, the last time the team selecting a DE in the draft, they took a bust over a NFL Caliber Defensive MVP in Watt. Unless a top DE falls, I rather address the need after rd 1. Target a traits player like the Vikings did with Hunter, who had very little production in college, but became a better pro.
