So, just clarifying-- you are even considering trading Romo this season? If the price is right?

To me-- I don't move Romo until the offseason at the earliest. And the price would have to be right as you say. I would be inclined to keep him as a backup-- even with his crazy high cap charge-- than give him away for nothing or cut him. Franchise QBs are the most valuable thing in the NFL. I would not even advertise him as trade bait. I'd make some team come in and "pry" him away from me.

The real issue for trading him is demonstrating to the league that he can still play at a very high level. We do that-- and we could be looking at a nice haul in picks. That would be huge for us to continue developing the defense and adding depth and quality to this team.

I would do exactly what you're describing -- even this year. Don't put it out there that he's available, but a QB-starved contender might just be desperate enough to call us up and give us a 1st and 3rd. I'd take it and never look back.

I love Romo as a person and as the Cowboys QB. But my loyalty is to the team over any individual.

I agree on your last point also. BUT -- the fact that teams don't know how effective he still is could actually be a good thing. Say we put him out there and he does great. Awesome! That could get us a ton of draft picks, like you said. But he could also go out there and get injured on the first series, and nobody will make a trade then. Our best bet would probably be a desperate team who is willing to roll the dice, hoping to get the 2014 version of Romo.

At the end of the day though, I think Tony will be a Cowboy until he retires. Jerry has too much loyalty to him to ever trade him away.

Yep. A healthy Romo makes this offense even better.

I like Dak alot and think he can grow to be the future here, but 7 TD's and averaging around 230 yards a game so far shows you that our offensive line and running game is what the dominant force is. Again don't get me wrong, Dak has been wonderful and I'm not taking anything away from him. Only 1 INT so far is nuts.

This offensive line is absolute money. Nobody can stop it. This defense is the surprise of the year imo.

Tony Romo will make it great! Of course, that's if he is healthy. If not, it's a whole different story.

Interesting point. If Romo steps on the field and fails-- his trade value decreases. I guess I see 2 things happening with the Cowboys QB situation:

1. Dak's emergence as a franchise QB and an amazing chemistry developing around this team. You don't mess with that.

2. Romo's at a crossroads. This would be the case even without Dak's success. Romo has been hurt a lot over the years and is on the downside of his career. Best case scenario is that he could play at a high level for the next 2-3 years. If the game has indeed passed him by, or his body simply can't hold up-- you have to make the change. However-- there are still a lot of unknowns with Tony. I feel for the man. He's given everything he can to this team and left his heart on the field. Tough way for his story as a Cowboy to end.

But-- like you-- this is a team sport and what is happening right now with this group of players is special. No individual's interests should cloud making the right call to stick with Dak right now.

Now that they are getting Dak more TDs in the passing game and he seems to get better each week...I am leaning towards Dak.
However I would have no problem at all, except the nashing of teeth of some, if Romo came back.

Plus If Romo came back...he would probably play a few games and get hurt and Dak would get the starting role again and never give it up. :p

On a serious note.

Some of you need to chill out with the you are either with us or against us attitude about it.

We are in the position right now that we spent YEARS trying to be in. When Aikman went down we went through years of looking for even a decent QB before we finally got Romo.

Now it would appear that instead of having to go through years of that same type of crap again we have struck gold with Dak.

Be happy...don't just argue to argue and see who can pee further just because someone does not agree with the QB you think is the best and the other guy sucks.

Just curious if there is anyone that still wants to go back to Romo. I think we can already see Jones waffling. Pretty much all but said they wont think about Romo until after the 8th game. And Garrett is certainly hailing Dak like he is the next coming.
My whole desire is to just see dak finish his cinderella story this year, it is similar to bradys first year and russell wilson 1st year.
Jerry needs to go ahead and commit to dak for this season only. And tony would be there ready to go if needed.

Keep 2017 as a open competition for starter between romo and dak.

There are still plenty of romo fans, and dak fans, but we dont make the decisions.

Here is a thought, how many teams have a bkup like Romo ??......none it sort of makes us super redundant.
I dont like seeing tony disrespected or made fun of. Or saying he is finished, because I dont think he is yet.

That said as many know, i have been on the dak train since,I saw him play the 2nd pre-season game, and said maybe he
should be the starter over romo.

I know people will say "But Romo sucks in the playoffs" but he's the better option for a deep playoff run. Rookie QBs and playoffs just don't mix. If we are playing to win this year Romo, if we are playing for the future Dak

I'd go with Dak the rest of the season and make it clear its for the rest of the season, and state what Romo's role is.......I'm getting tired of the "But Romo would have scored 50 yesterday or Romo with this line would be 6-0".
Thank you for saying it, I'm tired of hearing it also, wow total disrespect for the rookie quarterback. First it was, it's only preseason, once teams start to scheme him, he want do so well. He proved that that line of thinking wrong, now it's Tony would have put up 50, or the team would be 6-0. These fans just don't want Dak to be the starting quarterback for the cowboys. How many teams are 5-1 in the NFL? can't believe these fans want to bench a successful young quarterback. Are we replacing him with a Hall of Fame player? a super bowl winner? please I just can't believe it. I'm convinced some here would rather see the team lose, if Tony isn't the starting quarterback. You would think they were Giant,Eagle, or Skins fans, heck I believe Dak gets more respect from the opposing teams fans.

Id go back with Romo. The team is 15-4 in his last 19 starts and has the highest qb rating in the NFL during that time period. Give Him a chance to play with Elliot. I think Dak has been great and We have found Our future Franchise QB. I think Romo gives Us a better chance to go further this year. If father time shows up and He looks bad for afew games put dak back in for the rest of the season.

15-4 is a 79% win percentage for Romo
5-1 is a 83% win percentage for Dak

Last year, Romo had a 79.4 rating (97.1 career rating)
This year, Dak has a 103.9 rating (103.9 career rating also)

You Romo homers can't even win the statistics argument (which actually doesn't count for much)

That's not disrespect. Rather, it's a logical train of thought pertaining to rookie quarterbacks. We would be saying the same thing about Carson Wentz if he was lighting it up for Philadelphia the way Dak is lighting it up here in Dallas. People would be saying it about any rookie quarterback. And if he were doing what Dak is doing, by this time of the year people would be changing their tunes, just as they are with Dak.

I agree with the rest of your post. We do have some "fans" who would rather be right than happy. But those fans ships go both ways. While there are some who want Toney back just for Toney sake. There are others who would take losing as long as he didn't get the starting job back.

It's unrealistic to be comparing last season Toney to this season Prescott. Romo played four games, three in which he was injured. The one game he did play healthy what's the season opener, and we all remember what he did against the Giants.

Go back to the last season Romo was healthy. That's the quarterback we would be banking on getting if he plays. Basing expectations on 2015 is nothing but BS.

He was hurt last year and tried to come back to soon to try to save the season. Romo has a all time great qb rating. Dak has done it for 6 games. His QB rating in his last healthy year was 113.2.
