Some advice regarding Jerry

Val kilmer is very underrated.

The scene in the woods where he shoots the guy was acting A+ work but my favorite scene is at the railroad terminal where Kurt tells them he's coming & hell's coming with him! Wyatt Earp was a hell of a man.

I love that movie.

He's super wealthy & probably feels entitled because of that but I think really he wants more than anything to be thought of as a super brilliant football mind. Like Landry. Like Jimmy. That's what I see from him.

Margaret Thatcher said:
Power is like being a lady... if you have to tell people you are, you aren't.

Let's substitute power to football authority...do you see Bill Belichick, Sean Peyton, or the Harbaughs screaming: "Listen to me - I know football?" Attention comes to Belichick, and if anything, it's probably more attention than he wants. Ditto about Landry.

Looks like someone has been paying attention. I agree, Jerry the owner is fine, Jerry the GM is KILLING US.

This will never make sense to me.

Jerry the owner hired and retains Jerry the GM. There would be no Jerry the GM without Jerry the owner.

They don't make a shade of lipstick fitting for this pig. He's a terrible owner as well as a terrible GM.

I remember Lacewell saying on Jimmy's A FOOTBALL LIFE that all Jerry wanted was a little credit ( I am paraphrasing but the comment made me think Jerry was one to sulk when he didn't get credit).

He wants the credit if they ever do anything. That's why he has remained GM. It's all about power. And he can do that. He owns the toy.

That Thatcher quote is brilliant.

SOME OF US GET IT! Good god almighty! Jerry is here to stay, either accept that fact or move on. You are like a friggen broken record.

I don't like some things that Jerry does, but I will never be so consumed about something that I cannot control, and your vetching about him on a daily basis is not going to change anything! Damn, dude!

Jerry liking Garrett is not just something Jerry is saying. All of the inside types like Broaddus, Spags, etc. say that Jerry really wants it to work with Garrett.

Why on earth would you need "inside types" like Spagnola and Broaddus to confirm what is pretty obvious.

Jones loves Garrett. He is what Al Davis was trying to do with Lane Kiffin but failed to do. He has a lot invested in him. This is his great experiment and will readily admit he has been grooming him all along.

Nothing he does to excuse Garrett should be shocking to anyone.

As an owner he knows how to keep the team in the spotlight and market it like no other. As a GM is is the worst thing that ever happened to the team. I'm fine with agreeing with you though. I just want him and his family to the hell out of here.

lmao...you will be dead and gone before the Cowboys are owned by a different owner.

If you feel this way...it would be a good idea for you to find another team!

It's hard to combat this arguement.

However, he has kept the team on the top of the valuation list and it has the best brand recognition.

If you owned an asset, and for 28 years it has stayed the "best performers of the 32 peers in terms of revenue" it also hard to combat that.

The debate is how much of that is Jerry, versus him simply leveraging the brand that the most valuable before he owned it (i.e. a rising tide lifts all boats). Still I would have thought some team would have overtaken.

I think the campo years began to hurt him in revenue and apathy. I also beleive that winning is the only thing to keep the asset "on top" over the long-haul. I am amazed though that it hasn't eroded sooner, and I guess you have to give Jerry credit there.

Without question. I know "the love the owner, hate the GM" thing gets clouded but that is fairly accurate.

If you separate the two, he is successful in one aspect.

But at the end of the day, the results count, at least to me. I know I do not care how rich he gets foisting an inferior product and marketing it well. Sorry, just not a source of pride for me.

I did not start caring about the Cowboys because Schramm was a great marketing expert.

How long did it take for Schramm to get the team to a SB?

Whether Jerry was baited into the drafting JFF is irrelevant. He could have simply said, he wasn't a consideration or something of that matter. However, he went on to talk about it, in detail, giving insight into what could have been.

Jerry can't resist the spotlight, there is no question about that.

- The problem lies where overrides his coaches/scouts and listens to Lacewell - someone who is outside of this current organization - and acts upon it.
- The problem lies where he completely undresses his head coach, publicly, leaving no question as to who is ultimately in charge and the head coach has to tap dance his way around the media when the questions are asked.
- The problem lies where Jerry has even admitted on national TV that he would fire himself based on his current results.
- The problem lies that instead of caring about winning, and giving guys like Witten, Romo, Ware, etc real chances at winning he continues to make poor management/financial decisions and doesn't even give them a decent head coach to win with. (outside of Parcells)

I hear you. But the other side of the arguement is that - absent wins (success), you would expect the valuations and the brand to diminish in value, or not continue to skyrocket. It could be argued that, Jerry the owner/CEO increased asset value inspite in spite of producing an inferior product.

It would be like GM continuing to put out crappy products and their valuation outpacing Tesla, Ford, etc. Smoke and mirrors can happen with any company from time to time, but its window is tight. The fact the party continues is befuddling, perplexing, and flummoxing. It shouldn't happen - but has. Its almost like the Cowboys have hedged the brand by staking claim to lovable losers or main villain.

I agree with you, results matter. But this would make an excellent B-school business case. Success from mediocre results

Used to be about football on the field, even when Schramm built the brand. I remember the sheer organizational horror if the club lost a playoff game.

Now, that is a successful season and a reason for hope. But we do not even have that honestly.

It's amazing how he's made the Dallas Cowboys relevant.

I mean, the Dallas Cowboys. What were they before Jerry Jones took over? This man is a marketing genius.
