I think Escobar will excel once Witten hangs tem up. I mean look at Bennett he isnt Jason, but he is decent. Escobar just need more PT!

By the time Witten hangs them up Escobar will be playing for someone else. Listening to Witten he has no intention of hanging it up anytime soon.

Apparently that's the plan draft TE's/receivers and develop them for other teams. We did a nice job developing Harris he's looked very good for the Giants and came back to haunt us a few weeks ago with a 100 yard KO return. I'm sure he made the coaching staff feel proud as he burned us on that score. We also did a nice job with Amendola for the one summer we had him turning him into a fine player with NE. Escobar will probably end up being another Jimmy Graham for a team not named the Cowboys.

Don't forget Andre Holmes too.

oh stop it, on his worst day Dez shoud have eaten Moore alive, come on, this is silly.

Dez is still not 100% and didn't look focused yesterday. His emotions seem to get the better of him at times. He drops a pass that hits him right in the hands and is looking at the ref like he got interfered with. The entire team is back to looking dysfunctional.

At least Mike Jenkins didn't come back to haunt us yesterday he actually committed a stupid penalty on a late hit.

have you ever thought maybe, just maybe Dez isnt perfect? i dont want to blow your mind here, but Dez isnt as good as you think and hes not a great all around WR. Hes in the school of really really good. But no way can he not or shouldnt have beaten Moore better. Yes this also goes with my saying "Garrett wont exploit other teams" but no way should Garrett assume Moore would contain Dez.

SO give the excuses a rest, the sunshine crew is running out.

If Dez is still struggling after 2 games how can we expect Romo to be Romo right out of the gate after his long layoff? I don't see this streak ending anytime soon.

You're right of course, Dez should have eaten Moore alive... but he didn't. Something is still wrong with our playmaker.

yes, i will agree, but even one arm amputated he should have done better. I agree hes not 100 percent and i was against his coming back early. Since i saw little benefit. I just cant make excuses for every little thing.

And that lineman we had last year got a personal foul that pulled the offenses *** out of the fire

ex cowboy players were ******* up all over the league yesterday, Austin ****s up an easy catch and then Murray drops a screen pass where he is wide open, Chandler drops a perfect pass from Brady.

True.

Remember that Dez used to just disappear in some games, especially the second half.
I think that some defenders can get in his head, and that his anger and swag actually come from poor self esteem. So, if he's limited in his cuts and quickness, and therefore already emotionally compromised, his play will likely suffer even worse.

So, is there a subtraction by addition of these fragile emotional basket cases like Dez and Hardy?
From my perspective there is, and I frankly wouldn't have made that investment.

JJ, however, thinks he can rehabilitate these guys, turn them around, exorcise their demons.
That's a noble challenge, but the consequences may not be worth the baggage.

i do i was hoping it wasnt true, but some of the weaknesses are still there on Dez, Your post is just more accurate than mine. This i agree with. And while we try to get Dz better at something else, something else slips.

Who's making excuses. It's an observation that has merit.

Remember the 18th-25th spot in the draft we're going to find ourselves when this team finishes 5-2 and puts us out of the top 15 picks?

fwiw...a 7-9 record won't put us out of the top 15 most likely.
probably would be in the 11-13 range. :)

No receiver is perfect but Dez is one of the premier receivers in the league it's not even a debate. Say what you will but he's a great player. He's always had trouble getting separation which is why he has to win so many jump ball battles. It's winning so many battles that makes him a great receiver. Most of his TD's come from winning battles. He missed a lot of training camp with an injury and didn't play at all during preseason. The Cowboys rushed him back vs Seattle to try and help save their season they knew that game would be pivotal.

His foot is still not 100% plus he hurt his knee vs Philly and was seen limping after that game. A few excuses can be made for Dez with the injury issues and the lack of preparation he had upon his return. What is not excused is the lack of maturity he keeps showing. He's been around long enough that he should know how to conduct himself but 6 years into his career he still needs to be sat down and scolded. He needs a strong coach, a real head coach to set him straight.

While I generally agree with your post, I think his fragile ego and perpetual lack of maturity, as well as an average ability to get separation are the reasons why he is not an elite receiver. True, he's one of the best at jump balls, but he's brought down and become insignificant at times by some of the other issues. The poor offensive output is yet another situation that will get a rant or two from him and create angst within the team.

I've had a few of those on my teams, and the rationalization is always something like "He just really wants to win...", which implies that the rest of the team doesn't want it as much, or that he deserves special treatment. When Hardy goes on an angry rant and says he's a warrior, it's the same problem -- no one else is?

Back to the good news -- Dez should feel a lot better having his QB back, and so should everyone else. Tony is the on-field OC, and he'll make the in-game adjustments. We'll sustain some drives like last year, and keep our D rested and unexposed. Would be nice to have Lee back as the on-field DC, but he may not be ready for a while.

I'm looking forward to seeing us kick some Dolphin tail.

One game at a time.
