Steve McNair was a statistically average QB untill he blew up in the 2001 season, his seventh in the league. This sort of wild generalization rob your post of all credence. The generally accepted idea is that there are certain positions where there is a certain grace period (e.g. QB, WR, etc.) and others (RB, S... etc..) where almost instant gratification is expected.
