I think this thread can be summed up with this: when I went to Oxnard I saw people in a plethora of miles Austin jerseys and they just loved the player, couldn't explain it but they loved him as a person. And then there were those people in line who were like id never buy a miles Austin jersey what has he done? To each his own.

Comparing Miles' work ethic to Smith's is completely ludicrous. Quite frankly there are no players in the NFL currently that have that work ethic and desire for the game like he did so that is a completely moot point..

Granted the armchair quarterbacks will always have something negative to say about every player once he leaves the team, it really is a lose-lose situation.

I really liked Austin until I saw some things that made me change my mind. One of those things was lack of effort after getting his big payday.

No, but taking a dump all over a former player who gave us a ton of great games but got injured is your way of keeping it "classy"?

I rest my case.

What is your definition of a ton? Austin hasn't played in that many games. He was busy with his "lingering injury". If I wanted to take a dump on Austin, I would compare his smile to Mr. Ed's.

Not sure if you are being serious...

Yes I was being serious. I'll remember Miles as having one great game as a Cowboy & being injury prone & that's about it.

Cluelessness, classlessness and talking out of both sides of your mouth run rampant here.

It never ceases to amaze me how harsh some fans are towards players. Players that even did well here, but maybe ran into bad luck. The latest one is the Austin Miles thread. The guy was awesome, and I'm sure you were all singing his praises in that game in KC. Do you think he really wanted to have injury problems, and be a late off-season pick up by the Browns at this point in his career? Judging by a few of the "good riddance" and "watch him get injured" comments you would think that would be the case. Wish the guy luck and move on. He played his heart out here from what I saw.

This extends to a lot more players. Both former, and still on the team. If you were in the position of being an NFL player looking at this $$$ wise I'm pretty sure 95% of you would be trying to avoid everything from not being on the field, and risking losing it all to someone else looking to replace you. This goes for both former players and current.

The NFL is perhaps the hardest league to stay healthy, make a Drew Pearson or Everson Walls type career in, and still not be looking over your shoulder. Hell, on Cowboyszone even Everson Walls has had his haters.

Good luck Miles, I hope everything works out well in in Cleveland. Most of us loved you in Dallas.

As a fan we generally only invest ourselves in the team. That breeds a "what have you done for me lately" attitude. Injuries makes the answer a big old "Not much lately". Again as a fan, if your not helping my team win, your hurting them. May be a bad indictment on us as fans, but thats the way it is. When your paid millions to perform and you cant for whatever reasons, that investment by the fans entitles them to feel negatively towards that player. Right or wrong, thats the way it is and anyone surprised by this attitude or display of affection towards a lame player is not paying attention to all sides of the story here. Again, there is no personal knowledge, it is a face with stats attached to it, If the stats suck, the player sucks. Law of fan investment. Trust me, it aint only Cowboys fans that feel this way. Its every fan in every sport in every country. Get used to it or get used to having your sensibilities tested.
