Somebody will fall to 12

its very rare that a player that shows little pass rush in college suddenly becomes a real threat in the pros
we have been down this road can't teach that well if you can;t rush you can;t rush
In most cases I agree. Usually production in college translates to NFL success.
Traits are important. However, NFL scouts are all trying to make names for themselves by finding a diamond in the rough.

The biggest traits guy that turned into a great pass-rusher as of late, has been EDGE Odafe Oweh. He had zero sacks in college. His burst and speed around the corner were undeniable though. With a lot of coaching he has turned into a big win for scouts who bet on the traits.
Justin Madubuike only had 11 sacks in college and it took him years to ramp up to what he has become in the NFL. It sucks he has a serious career threatening injury because he has really put it all together.

Don't just dismiss the traits guy. I lean towards production over traits too, but it really depends on the state of the roster. Win now mode or a future re-build.

Pass rushers come from scheme. Seattle doesn’t have a great individual pass rusher but the scheme rushers using slants and games. Micah really spoiled us because of his early success but young lineman take time. Faulk is 20 years of age. Team him up with Clowney I think we might have something.

The 2qbs and 9 players will go before 12. Somebody is going to fall to us at 12.
Reese
Bain
Bailey
Downs
Delane
Love

There will be some good options.
Shoot, at 12, take Caleb Downs and call it a day.

Yeah, yeah, safety isn't a premium position. But I'm trying to improve the defense and win in '26.

Caleb Downs is Josh Downs cousin. I was a big Josh Downs fan before the draft..he'd be great in Dallas. Anyway, they are very similar as far as elite technique and fundamentals.

Parsons had 6 sacks in college. He wasn't even a pass rusher in college.

If we are in a 'Dak Window' scenario (and acknowledging we have multiple defensive positions to upgrade) then we cant afford to sit and wait for who falls.
Identify the individual (s) you want and go and get him, trading our two 1st Rd picks to: a) move up (get the individual we want) and then getting a 2nd and 3rd (assuming the REAL drop off point in the draft is after the top 10/12 ish).

1 of 5
Styles, Delane, McCoy, Lemon, Terrell,
Cheers, that certainly gives something to ponder. For me, i'd say that staying at 12th is the worst case scenario (and yes I acknowledge that dont know if we spend in FA prior to this), however:

- Styles - what's the drop off between him: Hill and Allen
- McCoy - we're already experiencing the aftermath of ACL, especially at CB.
- Delane - see Terrell drop off and is pretty much universally seen as CB2 (to an ACL injured McCoy
- Lemon - no.

Can we afford to sit AND HOPE (caps for effect). If we have a specific player in mind (rather than Drafting for Positional Need).....then couple the two 1st Rds and get him (and get back a 2nd and 3rd), otherwise get out of 12th (IF, INDEED THERE IS ANYONE THAT WANTS TO DRAFT UP).

Are you talking about Jayson Oweh from Penn State? He had seven (7) sacks in college for accuracy sake.

Daron Payne only had 3 sacks at Alabama, but has put 37 so far in his NFL career, including an 11.5 sack season.

I like Faulk a lot for the same reasons you do. I think he can develop into a quality DE somewhere between Jaelen Phillips and Gregory Rousseau.

Good call it was just his last year that he laid a goose egg. The media made a big ordeal about it though. He was drafted in the first and they couldn't wrap their heads around it after a zero sack season.

BUT how many examples do you have over many that never did anything? Outliers are called that for a reason

If you did not sack in college its VERY unlikely you will be a sack master in the pros
There are a LOT more Mazi's then Micahs and we cannot afford to reach

Your right, Dallas can't wait or the traits. Dak's window is closing already. They need Bailey at 12 or Mesidor at 20/ trade down into late 20's. Need someone that can contribute from go.

Exactly. Plug and play players all day on rounds 1-2.

IF Downs is there we take him
we have been able to find pass rushers
we have failed miserably in finding safeties

I Don't think any of these players fall to #12.
Probably not, but surprises happen every year.
It doesn’t take too many “passes” on a certain player for them to land at #12 just because of the certain needs of the teams ahead of Dallas.
Examples:
I don’t expect this but am hopeful for Downs because Safeties are almost never taken in the Top 10.
Edge is one of the deeper positions in this draft. It’s out there that no player has ever had double digit sacks in the NFL with arms as short as Bain’s. Teams could skip him because they think they could get a decent Edge in the 2nd. Again doubtful, but I hope they’re prepared to sprint to the podium if he magically falls to 12.
They got great returns on the 2nd and 3rd they gave away, but this is a bad year to not have a Day 2 pick based on what will be available and what their needs are.
Yes, trading back would be ideal and picking up that extra draft capital, but I’m not super hopeful that there will be teams looking to trade up and give Dallas proper value for their 1sts.
