Someone convince me this team is different

Needing to get this off my chest here.

I've thought all year this team had a special feel. The energy of the rookies and the rejuvenated vets. The defense in the regular season somehow making plays when we needed them. Things seemed to be lining up for the Cowboys toward a destiny resembling the 90s dynasty. I want to be positive and tell myself the future is bright but all I can think about are the countless devastating losses for the past 20 years.

I'm 30 years old. I was 7 in 93' when I begged my parents for a Cowboys starter jacket and became a fan. I was too young to realize how rare and special that era was. My life as a Cowboys fan where I've truly understood the game has been filled with disappointment and angst. I can't help but look on the future with a doubtful eye because that's all I have to fall back on.

This loss in particular has crushed me. I don't know that I've ever felt the kind of gutted feeling over football as I did last night. So what makes this team different than the recent past? How do we become one of those teams to always contend with, one that makes the playoffs every year as opposed to once in a great while? We often times seem to "have the talent" but consistently fall short. I want to feel optimistic that this is the start of a new era for the Cowboys but I'm finding it tough.

Help me out here.

Can't do it. Could have another 21 years of this. Just like the last 2 decades.

13-3 and no loss by more than 3 points, except for a throw away game in Philadelphia.

A 'rook' QB that ranked top five as to throwing stats and a 'rook' that led the NFL in rushing yardage, by quite a bit.

A really tough defense would make losing a lot harder for the Cowboys.

Our offense was our best defense all year long - that was going to catch up to us, and it did. We need a major talent infusion on defense, especially the front seven -- and we also need a speed WR and an upgrade at TE.

I'm feeling the same way you are.

This team was just like all of the other teams in recent past. I can't sell you on anything but hope for next year and even right now I don't want to buy it but it's all there is right now.

We had the best possible opportunity right in front of us and it has gone wasted yet again.

Regardless of what the negative people say - and learn to ignore them on this site - there are many signs of this team turning a corner.

This is a quarterback league and our rookie stood tall and tied the game after the defense and two errant penalties totally negating drives which appeared to be headed for point.

This team is a few players away.

I sat in my car in the parking lot of the place where I worked on the night of The Catch and cried about that loss. A grown man crying over the results of a silly kids game. Keep your chin up. While there are many disgruntled fans here now, they, as well as me, seem to find answers after the fact.

This team is changing, and my opinion is there will be days in the future when the team hoists the Lombardi with the core of this team in place.

I'm almost 29, and I feel exactly like you do.

We were told the same thing in 2007. "Bright future, we'll be back, yadda yadda."

Yet here we are 10 years later without even a Divisional Round win.

No point in convincing you since it will be impossible to convince you until they go to the Super Bowl. Let's be honest there is no way to predict if this team is any different. We are not fortune tellers.
One thing I do know that yesterday I wasn't nervous about DAK making a big turnover like I normally would be with Romo. Dak just gives me confidence I don't know why I can't answer that question
