That's just it ...I can't honestly say if this team is different .. I've been a cowboys fan for more than 4 decades .. I've been excited and enthralled in the 70's ... seen my share of heartbreakers then too ..but the teams then always felt special ..
Had my heart ripped out in the 80's with a decade of almost was and wait to next years followed by utter disappointment and embarrassment in the late 80's.. the 90's started with tremendous hope and peaked early but I felt like anytime we took the field it was our game to lose where only we could beat us .. that and a very handsy Deion Sanders .. the team was awesome , special but man it was the definition of excess and egos and ultimate self destruction from the top down .. the 90's ended horribly and Jones deal with the devil has been collected on for over 21 years and counting.. the 70's always seemed fun .. the 80's just disappointing .. 90's magical .. since then
2007... ugggh
2014.... ugggh ugggh
2016 .. disbelief .. waiting for the shoe to drop .. and it did hard on January 15 2017..
Is this team different ? Is there magic .. I don't know .. but one thing is for sure I will be there in 2017... waiting and watching .. hoping beyond hope that we may finally be going in the right direction .. this team has allot of work to do though ... some may not want to admit it but we need a few more truly big impactful players .. we need a season of luck .. not sure if our coaches are up to the task in this coach academy in training "process" .. not sure if our ownership can do this either ... but I will always be a cowboys fan for life as I always believe that somehow someway we have to win and will win in the season that matters .. the postseason ..
go Cowboys !!!!

Cowboys record the past three years when our starting quarterback was playing:

27-7

If some of you want to jump off the bus...I'm OK with that. If you want to keep stinking the bus up...I'm glad to help you off.

There are things to be critical about, but be a man about...not a whiny baby.

A young OL, with 3 All-Pro talents that will lead the way for the next 5-10 years.

An All-Pro type back behind them that turns 22 this offseason.

A rookie QB that just had, arguably, the best rookie campaign ever.

A WR that many teams would gladly have as their #1 WR in a passing league.

If you think the offense starts up front on the line, you can't ask for a better foundation. An incredibly young guy at RB that any team that played dominant defense could ride to the SB. What looks to be a highly efficient QB that looks to be, at least, a top 10 QB yearly.

This offseason will go a long way to the "difference" of this team, but the offense looks set for the foreseeable future.

If we can get our pass defense to top 10, we'll be contenders each and every season.

I could tell from preseason that the Cowboy's didn't have the defense for the NFCCG much less the Super Bowl. The Cowboys need improvement on their defensive line, secondary, and another WR that can draw double coverage to compliment Dez. The Cowboys are close, just not close enough for this year.
Gave you your first like bro....welcome to the zone. And remember who liked you first

The biggest difference that I saw was there was more of a feeling of team & less of a feeling of a group of individuals. That's the first step towards winning a championship. A group of individuals doesn't win championships in a team sport. Everyone on the team has to be able to trust the other members to go out and do their part. You could see that trust forming this year.

Sometimes, in order to take the next step, there must be disappointment and failure. A great example is when the Broncos got destroyed by Seattle in the Superbowl. The Broncos learned what they needed in order to take the next step. We'll see if the Cowboys learned what they needed to take that next step as well.

I can't say that I disagree ....there is definite hope but your last sentence sums it up ... but did they learn? To be continued .... but every season starts with hope for me so again not sure if that means that this team is different than previous installments ... it feels it for the same things you described ... but in over 40 years I've had the same feeling and have sen the same thing ... for every broncos / Seahawks story (which by the way is hardly the same as this years cowboys as that was a team loaded with vets as well and it was the Super Bowl, not an early exit of one and done like the cowboys ..) but for every broncos story there are other stories of promise and hope that fell flat .. not 100% confident that what we saw was hope with a glimmer of magic .. or right place right time one year hit .. I will always have hope and hope they can deliver 2 years in a row but with a finish that shows progress

Players need to settle for nothing less than championships.

But as a fan...if you are miserable and view everything short of a Super Bowl win as a tragedy...you will end up a wreck.

There are 32 teams...each team starts the season with a 3% shot at a title.

Needing to get this off my chest here.

I've thought all year this team had a special feel. The energy of the rookies and the rejuvenated vets. The defense in the regular season somehow making plays when we needed them. Things seemed to be lining up for the Cowboys toward a destiny resembling the 90s dynasty. I want to be positive and tell myself the future is bright but all I can think about are the countless devastating losses for the past 20 years.

I'm 30 years old. I was 7 in 93' when I begged my parents for a Cowboys starter jacket and became a fan. I was too young to realize how rare and special that era was. My life as a Cowboys fan where I've truly understood the game has been filled with disappointment and angst. I can't help but look on the future with a doubtful eye because that's all I have to fall back on.

This loss in particular has crushed me. I don't know that I've ever felt the kind of gutted feeling over football as I did last night. So what makes this team different than the recent past? How do we become one of those teams to always contend with, one that makes the playoffs every year as opposed to once in a great while? We often times seem to "have the talent" but consistently fall short. I want to feel optimistic that this is the start of a new era for the Cowboys but I'm finding it tough.

Help me out here.
I share your devastation over the loss...I will give you two reasons off the top of my head:

1) We arguably have an historically great unit in our offensive line that should only get better with the departure of Free and the return of Collins; and

2) You could be a Browns fan (or any other bottom of the swamp dwelling franchise)...they're not even good enough to have gut wrenching losses...they have to envy ours.

I'm almost 29, and I feel exactly like you do.

We were told the same thing in 2007. "Bright future, we'll be back, yadda yadda."

Yet here we are 10 years later without even a Divisional Round win.
add 2009 and 2014 to that , and now 2016.
JG was involved in all those losses.

Back in the 90's we had a real coach and good asst coaches, now not so much.
I think it is good chance dallas is in the playoffs next 3 years, but how far they go is debatable.

Sorry kid I was 6 in 77 when I dawned my first cowboys pjs so add16 more years to the gutless feeling I still have this morning. Every post I read or every highlight I see it gets worse. I can only imagine the agony of the fans with time greater than me. I wrote this in another post earlier this week and believe it 100%. There is an obvious atmosphere of losing with this organization that started in 96 and remains to this day. You can have a very successful season like this past year but still have an atmosphere of not being successful when it counts. Every time this organization has had an opportunity to take the next step they have failed each and every time. This past Sunday may have been the worst. Until the pressure of winning when it matters is no longer an issue this curse, reality, stigma will be the norm. Is the future bright....sure....how many times have we said or felt this in the past twenty years? Maybe six Legitimate times? Ask the dead skins what it is like to find a rookie QB, rookie RB, make the playoffs, win the NFC east, and proclaim to the football world they have the foundation and future of their franchise. I remember many posts on here of the jealousy portrayed over RGIII, Morris, and their future. Another storied organization that has found a way to implode every time they get close since their last SB. How many times did the cubs get close until last year...even though many of today's players have had nothing to do with the past twenty years don't think for one minute not winning a big game when it counts isn't resonating in their heads; and if the coaches are not putting the right game plan together the pressure only gets greater. I'm still a diehard, still a fan, still a believer, still will be there, but man I am pissed and sick and tired of watching this ONCE great organization win the games when they count. I know one thing I am done doing is comparing any future season, team, or players to the team of the 90s, 80s and the concsecutive winning seasons, and the 70s...while the 80s team obviously never won it all pretty hard to discount the 28 straight winning seasons that ended in that decade. All those teams had winners on the field, winners coaching, and this was the greatest organization in the NFL. Winning teams find a way to win a game and losing teams even a "good" losing team will find a way to lose. It's going to be a long time until winning games matters....hopefully this team and organization will have figured it out by this time next year.

This team went 13-3 in the regular season with 2 rookies in the offensive backfield, also with a defense that lacks an adequate pass rush and defensive backs. If that's not over-achieving, I don't know what is. Additionally, there's really no shame in losing a playoff game to the likes of Aaron Rodgers when plagued with the disadvantage of such compromising defensive inadequacies. Defensive improvement in the offseason would probably improve this team's performance significantly.

No NFC East team has won back-to-back division titles since what 2004?

1st place schedules don't treat this division well.

When we go 9-7 and get thumped in the WC round on the road next year you'll have your answer.

Hopefully it spells the end for Garrett and we can right this long tilting ship.

This team is not different. This team has not really been that bad. Other than the defense not being able to close occasionally, this team has had a chance to win 95% of its game since 2006. Officiating has been this team's Achilles Heel. Too many times the past 10 or so years this team has been wrecked by unfavorable and biased filled officiating.

That may be, but as Dak told Dez during the Browns game "The flags are going to come, flags might not come, but we can’t let that affect our game.” What all of this comes down to is discipline. A well disciplined team doesn't give the officials many reasons to throw a flag. The Cowboys gave too many reasons for the officials to throw those flags in the first half. Either way, you can't let the officiating get to you. It's part of the game. In the end, you have to play your game.

Why cheer for a lost this far in advance just to fire the coach. Why not cheer and hope Garrett leads this team to the promise land

Sit down for this part...it isnt different.

Its led by the same dummy, Jason Garrett, who has ruined so many careers and chances now that I am sitting here about in jason garrett clap mode.
