Someone explain to me again why Chicago is supposed to be so great (MNF Thread)

I think the Saints are the favorites, Dallas, Bears and Seahawks in the mix and my sleeper team is San Fran.

Probably because they were #2 in the NFL last year in points scored (with Rex Grossman), and #3 in defensive points allowed.

Outside of their division, they also beat the living dog out of Seattle and the Giants, who also went to the NFC Playoffs (and beat the Cowboys)

Wonder how many of those points were directly attributable to the defense and special teams??

The Bears have a very, very good team all around-the D is good, Benson is a very good power back, ST is outstanding-however, they need AT LEAST a decent QB in there, even Griese would manage the game plan pretty well.

I really hate to see that ONE very, very bad play weigh down a team like that.

Here is my bold prediction for the year: The Bears will NOT win their Divison this year. Green Bay will win it. And to paraphrase half the board: BOOK IT!

At the very least-I hope they BEAT Philthy on opening week.

It sure did look like Peyton, when asked about the Vick situation, had a lot to say about it but refrained in doing so and instead elected to take the high road when he shook his head (as soon as his name was mentioned) and said, "I wish him the best and that's all that I really have to say about it".

Really? I just got the feeling he was annoyed that they asked him.

I re-watched it again on my dvr before I posted this and that was the feeling I got. It started as soon as Michelle (sp?) mentioned Vick's name and the look in his eyes. Could be wrong but it was the impression that I got.

They are doing the stat comparison to Rex and Manning the first 23 starts. Honestly, throw out stats. I saw Manning in the beginning and you knew he would be great. Rex, I don't get that same feeling.

But... But... Jaws said he could tell Grossman was much improved after only one pass...

Yeah... I had to laugh.... but I think Jaws was more "pulling" for Rex than he was believing that he was all of sudden fixed

Griese is hardly an HOFer, much less a *great* one.

However-having seen alot of Bucs games in recent years(living in New Orleans prior), with the RIGHT personnel around him, he SHINES. When he had Cadillac, good receivers, and good OL, et al there, he managed the game plan very well.

If you take Rex out of the equation, Chicago has an outstanding D, an even better ST, a very good OL, a bruiser RB, and lots of weapons on O-just having a halfway decent QB like Griese will only make this team dangerous.

I think the division has improved from last year. Not a great deal mind you but at least some. I think Detroit and Minnesota will end up giving the Bears a much bigger problem than they did in 2006. I also keep thinking back to when Chicago went 13-3 a few years back under Dick Jauron, in which the Defense carried the team to that record (much like last year), and Chicago went 4-12 the following year. Now I don't think they'll drop that far off but eventually the Defense is going to get severely tired of the offense not pulling its' share and Rex's turnovers putting them in bad field position time and time again.

If Chicago came out and stunk I would not be the least bit surprised. Like you said, they had that great year and poof like magic the clock struck midnight.

I do not disagree with you at all. I simply believe circumstances more than actual talent is dictating why the Bears are considered favorites among many.

Someone tell me again why Dallas didn't draft Hester?:bang2:
