I am waiting for some fresh deer jerky around these parts.

I do not have the patience to sit out in the woods without moving or making a sound so I no longer hunt. I found that if I did sit still and remain quiet it was only because I fell asleep.:laugh2:

I think that is why I always enjoyed fishing more...I could get up, move around, change bait and so on.

But man alive do I love it right after deer season around these parts because of the eventually deer jerky that will be floating around soon after.:laugh2:

As far as the original topic. It appears that the guy broke the law and I think it is fair to say that it was not just a simple slip up of accidentally being over the limit by one or something of that nature that someone could understand.

Hunting would never work for you. You would have to give up bean burritos. Your farting scares the deer away as well as peeling the bark off the trees. :laugh1:

I could give up the bean burritos...but something else would just take its place.:laugh2:

Hey...when you are out in the snow or frost of an early fall/winter morning...you need something to help warm you up a little here and there. :D

I remember being out hunting one time.

Figured I would sit down by a tree and just wait and see if anything would come into the area. Just sit there and be quiet instead of making too much noise moving around.

A little later I woke up and there was a deer standing about 2 feet from me just looking at me. Don't know if I was snoring or what.

I did not shoot it. It was a doe and it was buck season. Don't know if I would have shot it even if it were a buck at that time. Probably would have shot my foot when I was trying to get my rifle up due to just waking up and seeing it. I just sit there for a few minutes and we stared at each other. It heard my friend coming down the hill and took off.

But my friend brings that up every once in a while...Hey Remember that deer that was staring at you when you were asleep with a rifle in your lap. Yes I remember I am the master hunter I reply. :laugh2:

brings back fond memories of high school days before they outlawed spotlighting. loved getting 20 odd bucks for a coon back then too. Nothing like a bunch of drunk idiots piling out of a pickup with 22's in the middle of the night. good times

  so true.

.22 LR was my shooter of choice too.

I live in a beautiful neighborhood/subdivision where the deer walk down the street with not a care in the world... this happens EVERY day. I was 30 yards from a 10 point feeding by the side of the road on the West entrance to our neighborhood tonight. I stopped and looked at him for about a minute. He looked me in the eye several times but was never alarmed... it was pretty cool...

We have loads of deer here, too. We always watch the deer come and eat grass in the backyard and watch the babies.

On our cul-de-sac, there are two houses, ours and the neighbors. The other half is split between the back end of someone's farm and an empty piece of land that is used by a local hunt club.

There's plenty of land between them and us, but it's still a little disconcerting to hear shotguns blasting when you are in your own living room.

I see deer on a very regular basis where I live. Across the street or in the yards of the neighbors on either sides of us. Mostly because of the apple trees in those yards.

Heck I had one get stuck in the fence of my carport and I had to get his hoof out of the fence and direct him out of the yard. That was an interesting incident and story.:laugh2: Let's just say I learned that putting a bucket over a deer's head helps calm them down and make them a little more manageable.:laugh2:

Imagine it nearly pitch dark and zero degrees. You are heading out to the office @6am and reach to grasp the hot coffee off the table. You hit the side door of the house to access the automobile and carport area and standing right there at the door step is the biggest moose in the world.

I have this episode happen at least 2 or 3 times every winter.

Now I have wisened up. I double check the window before heading out. I sometimes do it more than once or twice. I keep peekin through the blinds like some crazed meth head who is to paranoid to leave. :D

Its saved me a couple of times. These moose are huge and ornry.

Tell you...you guys should come live here.

Its a WILD WILD LIFE :laugh1: :laugh1: :laugh1:

Big difference between a deer and a moose. Deers/bucks can be dangerous in RARE incidents but I heard those bull moose are pretty aggressive and will really go after people...plus a LOT bigger.

Do you have a car starter on your truck?

Don't know if that would help scare a deer away but I use mine in the winter (not to scare off animals but just to start the car and warm it up). But when it starts it makes a couple of loud chirps, the lights come on and with the flow master pipes (that at this time sounds like they have a hole in one so it is even louder than normal) would pretty much scare anything away.

I tell you a funny story. I think about everyone I know, that has been driving for some period of time, in our area has hit a deer.

There was a period of time where my dad was traveling a road to go to work (it was like a 6 month time where he was working at this one place) and he hit a couple of deer. So then he decides to get those deer horns/whistles and puts them on the bumper of his truck. The day after he puts them on he hits another deer. I still remember him pulling into the drive way and cussing as he was tearing the one remaining deer whistle off his bumper. These blankety blanking things don't work worth a blankety blank :laugh1:

So there are troubles when living in areas where all the "critters" come out.

I don't know if you feel the same way, but as many times as I have seen deer up close, it sill always amaze me and fill me with a sense of wonderment. Then the wife gets nervous because when I look at her she sees that naughty look in my eyes. :p: ;)
