Something about Leary

I watched the first half and I continue to not see what you keep referring to about helping Free out. Neither of us has the All 22 so I'll reserve any further comments until then.

We lost the first half because of a turnover, mistakes, play calling and missed tackles along with a lack of talent on D. I'll make a point to look at the All 22 Wednesday and comment again.

If you do review the "22" film, check out the guard play... Both guards were a major problem with the offense– and Romo.

I realize how good Martin has been this season, but he was a train-wreck vs. Philly for whatever reason.

I'm assuming we don't have these issues when Parnell plays?

They helped him some also, but Free has about 80 starts in the NFL. Parnell only had 1 prior to this season and now has 4. Parnell has the upside to
Isn't he playing with a tender ankle issue?

Yes, he had an ankle injury earlier in the season. I doubt that it's 100% yet.

I don't know if it's still a problem or not.

But like Romo has said, "Everybody is banged up this time of year."

I posted this about how Leary's job is more difficult than what they do on the right side, but it also applies to Tyron. You can see in the images that I posted that he is always out on an island compared to the RT rarely being completely on an island. He definitely has the most difficult job.

The Cowboys tend to have Martin cheat to the right to help Free. That causes Fred to cheat right also to compensate for Martin compensating for Free.

The result is that Leary is often alone on a island with big gaps on either side and has to function almost like an OT.

On this snap you can see the right side and Fred are bunched together much closer than the left side. You can see that Leary is in open space. Fred is also to some extent, but Martin had started off closer to Fred and then kicked out to help Free.

This is a good view of it. Leary is in wide open space. Martin and Free tight together.
leary-5.jpg

Similar tight spacing on the right with Leary in open space on the left.
leary-2.jpg

Again tight spacing right. Leary in open space.
leary-3.jpg

Again.
leary-4.jpg

Leary in open space again.
leary-6.jpg

Here Free was beaten to the inside but Martin kicks out to get the rusher that beat Free.
leary-7.jpg

Leary tries to dance back and forth like an OT but loses his footing. Martin helping Free.
leary-8.jpg

Martin in place to help Free.
leary-9.jpg

When they start with a TE next to Free, then Martin doesn't always help him. Here with Witten starting out next to Free, the rusher can't beat Free to the inside. Murray looks at Free's man as he approaches in case Free needs help. The pass rusher is turning the corner on Leary like you normally see against an OT.

Here there was no TE and Martin couldn't help Free. Free's man is 1 inch from sacking Romo.

If you look at last week you will see Fred on Leary side alot. Remember him just standing right next to Leary on the TD throw Romo had forever to throw. Just depends on the presnap adjustments that are made because of presnap movement. In the eagles game they ran alot of movement presnap that forced Dallas to adjust protection to the right side and then dropped back. Leary just couldnt handle Cox plain and simple. You seem to talk bout Free being helped out too much. Free has been blocking very good all yr. You sure this isnt some kind of subliminal Parnell needs to be starting post?

And that could be true, but the same situation applied last year and Tryon was better last year.

I will. The middle has been schooled before so I'll look and see what they are doing. My guess is they are all guilty to varying degrees.

I agree that the scheme is designed to "protect" Free is a bunch of bologna. For one, you need to know the exact play call, blocking assignment, and adjustments made at the line. Secondly, you need to know their assignments based on what the defense does after the snap. I think it is a fool's errand to try to diagnose offensive line play from a fan's perspective, even with the All 22.

I think you can see certain things but blocking assignments are tricky.

You can't see that Martin is making up for Free getting beat here and Tyron being out on an island where nobody would be helping him if he gets beat?
leary-7.jpg

How about here where Martin is again out to help Free but Tyron has no other OLinemen within yards of him?

Not going to comment without seeing the All 22.

X has been pimping that theory for awhile now and people have seem to bought into it. Others have noted they do not see that on film. I usually enjoy X's post and I get Parnell is his pet cat but enough of the dogging of a player who has played very well this year.

Keep in mind he is related to Parnell. Well, he has to be the way he pimps Parnell.

Actually I'm "pimping" Leary here. I'm saying that a lot of what appeared to be Leary's fault is due to the scheme giving no help to Leary because they are giving it to Free.

You are cherry picking plays. What are the line calls? You don't think this happens with other players on the line? If you know the line calls you have merit but you don't so all the Free crap you push is baseless and tired, sorry X I like you but you're going overboard. You started a thread about Leary only to bang on Free.

It also bothers me that on the 2nd and 1 pic, the entire middle of the field is almost empty and not one WR turned after going past the first down marker. Something is wrong with the design of the WR routes.

I've been pointing this out for several years. So has others.

It's one of the biggest flaw with JG's offense.

Its not mutually exclusive. Free has played well this year but he is still the weakest link on the OL. He isn't as good as some think because he has two Pro Bowlers next to him and scheme help like X is pointing out.

And saying that doesn't mean Parnell is better than Free. But Parnell has more upside and at one third of the salary, may very well be the starter next year if Free wants a pay raise next season.

I see something, just thought it was part of our zone blocking scheme till you pointed it out. If I had that All-22 Film I wouldn't get any work done, and I be blasting Romo all day long....:p

Who are the two Pro Bowlers playing next to Free? You talking about a rookie and a 2nd year player?
