Something feels.... different about Jerry. I can't quite tell what it is. I know he's a narcissist and all, but he just feels a bit off. Like, previously, he would just annoy me with his decision making, but he was at least funny. He at least kept an appearance that he was trying to win. As aggravating as the losing had been, there was still some entertainment from the team and from him. When I could understand his Jerryisms, there was usually a nugget of wisdom or what he said was quite funny. Now, since the Green Bay loss, something feels.... different.

The way he approached the offseason. The way he talked at the tc press conference. The way he approached the Dak and CeeDee deals. The way he's treated Mike, and the way he is currently treating Mike when it came to the Chicago situation. The entire season and the way he is still behaving feels a bit more akin to when he rage traded Amari Cooper. I can seldom understand what he says/his Jerryisms anymore, and, even when I can, they just seem much more rage induced or petty. Quite plainly, he seems meaner and angrier than normal.

Has anyone else noticed this?
He feels a little squishy....at least, that's what someone around here told me...

In all honestly, I thought from day one that the leash with Corky was gonna be REAL SHORT given the way Booger was played for a fool during the opening press conference....I figured that didn't set well, and would forever be etched in Boogers mind, with consequences coming quicker than normal.

Well between him playing games with whether or not Mike will be available and the way he was handling contracts last year, I wonder if he is playing those games as a punishment to Mike. What if he waits until the 14th, and then let's Mike loose when all good options are gone? That is something Jerry would do.

I thought about that exact thing too!

He is just getting pretty old and the mind changes in various ways. Some get irritable, some depressed, etc, etc. It might even be early signs of dementia.

Well, I have concerns he may have had that before, but some of the signs of dementia do appear to be more pronounced of late.

Obviously, our coaching options would have dwindled by then too, but it's not like Jerry's going to get the best options anyway. Frankly, Mike is probably the best coach he can get that will put up with his usual antics, even before he became as nasty as he seems to have become entering the season. Something Jerry may want to know (not that he will likely have another coach to hire after the next one) is that coaches do talk. The stunt he just pulled with Chicago probably lost a few coaches that may have been outside options aside from Mike. Frankly, I could see Mike playing an Uno Reverse card on Jerry. Given what Jerry just did and how little he's spent on FA, I don't think another FO would blame Mike.

How is it that you know that he is a narcissist? Were u told this or is this your professional assessment? Thx in advance…
Some things even a blind man can see. We’re all narcissists to a degree. Jerry Jones is 82 and resents backlash more than in the past. That comes with age. His only problem is he’s no good at what he does. That’s just too bad for Cowboys fans. It’s not like he’s the only idiot franchise owner in the NFL. He’s the only bad owner Cowboys fans care about.

Plus, considering that Mike used to coach in Green Bay and probably knows someone in the Chicago FO, I wonder if he called a friend of his in the Chicago FO as a shot across the bow of Jerry with his Jerry's been acting towards Mike. My guess is that was Mike's way of telling Jerry that he's not Jason Garrett and not to approach him as such.

The thing is, he has built some decent rosters. The problem is he just can't get out of his own way, and now he's acting like a 3 year old knocking his building blocks down because someone else was giving him advice on how to build his tower.

I would hope he spends on the right players, but, that said, I can't help but notice that things seem different about Jerry .
Does anyone really believe Jerry is going on a spending spree?

What past behavior suggest this line of thinking?

Having said that, I don't trust Jerry to sign the right players even should he dip his toes in the free agency market.

No doubt, but I do think the Bears interview request for McCarthy bears (no pun intended) more scrutiny. I saw Mark Holmes surmised that it may have been the Bears calling Jerry's bluff in McCarthy. My guess, especially since we play Chicago at Chicago this year (hopefully on Thursday Night while I'm at MFF so I can go to the game) and since he used to coach Green Bay, is that Mike probably called someone he knows in their FO to send a message to Jerry. I think, like I said to someone else in this thread, that he was sending Jerry a message to tell him not to think of Mike as another Garrett he can push around. The longer Jerry tries to drag this out, the more likely it is that I think Mike calls more teams.

As for Jerry himself and the point of this thread, I think he seems....off.

The toughest part is it doesn’t have to be this way. There’s enough money to spend any amount he wants on a head coach and coaching staff. And while free agents are not automatic contributors, if they were they wouldn’t be free agents, but one of three or one of four do contribute. Sign some. Not even trying is what makes fans believe Jerry is not committed to winning. Would the Eagles have come up with Baun if they didn’t at least look at free agents in deference to their needs?

Jerry is bound and determined to not be lumped in with the other franchise ownership groups. The maverick act is old and pathetic. Just like Jerry Jones. It’s Cowboys fans’ cross to bear.
