Some things even a blind man can see. We’re all narcissists to a degree. Jerry Jones is 82 and resents backlash more than in the past. That comes with age. His only problem is he’s no good at what he does. That’s just too bad for Cowboys fans. It’s not like he’s the only idiot franchise owner in the NFL. He’s the only bad owner Cowboys fans care about.
He is the only “idiot franchise owner/GM”

The toughest part is it doesn’t have to be this way. There’s enough money to spend any amount he wants on a head coach and coaching staff. And while free agents are not automatic contributors, if they were they wouldn’t be free agents, but one of three or one of four do contribute. Sign some. Not even trying is what makes fans believe Jerry is not committed to winning. Would the Eagles have come up with Baun if they didn’t at least look at free agents in deference to their needs?

Jerry is bound and determined to not be lumped in with the other franchise ownership groups. The maverick act is old and pathetic. Just like Jerry Jones. It’s Cowboys fans’ cross to bear.

Exactly. There's no salary cap on coaches. He has enough money to hire whatever coach he wants. My issue has been that he doesn't appear to be trying. I can accept the results of this season more easily if he at least showed he was trying. It really doesn't have to be this way, and Jerry can and should choose to do the right thing. Rather than destroy the very thing he tried to save from foreclosure back in 1989 to where it's now nothing more than a cash cow for him (which will only last so long), he could be making so much more if he's just get out of the way. He'd get so much more credit that way. But, as Jeff Saturday and Shannon Sharpe have said, he'd rather lose his way than win someone else's way.

When I hear “ spending spree and cap $$ “ I’m not nearly as thrilled because as a violent sport football has more potholes then NW Dallas ….

I’m much more of a build through the draft since you have 4 yrs basically to pick round after round to fill holes at the rookie contract price . The nucleus of any contender should go through the April festivities and FA can get you maybe one or two contributors.

This past year Eric Kendrick’s and then ? Am I missing someone ? Coming off 7-10 and a cliff hanger episode in coaching with Philly dominating the Cowboys this draft is crucial .

No doubt, it's just more of a situation of, well, something just seems different with Jerry's mentality compared to the last few years.

He’s older and in the 80’s that’s sped up and frankly his son is not far from take over mode. I’m not sure how Stephen with really no one above him is going to run things .

I've been watching Jerry for 30 years, he manages through the media. He embarrassed himself this year resetting the cap.

He's got 80M to spend in FA, of course he's smiling, he's going on a shopping spree. This is why Micah Parsons is talking SB
I disagree that he is smiling and going to go on a shopping spree. he acts like there are money problems. sure the franchise is valued at $10 billion but how much does he have to pay for all his toys. how much does he have to give to each kid and grand kid? the cowboys seem to be their sole income source and there are a lot of mouths to feed

How is it that you know that he is a narcissist? Were u told this or is this your professional assessment? Thx in advance…
The post-game interviews after every game sealed it for me.

He's an old man, he desperately wants to win, but only if he's the person undeniably running the show. And he knows he doesn't have many years left. None of us can know for certain that we'll be here to experience it, but common sense and just looking at the man tells us that in the not to distant future, Cowboy fans will be discussing a Jerry Jones-less franchise for the first time since the 1980s. He knows time is running out, he can't fix his broken toy, and he's at a loss as to what to do. It's why he lashed out at radio hosts, keeps McCarthy from talking to other teams, and refuses to accept blame or responsibility. He's lost in the woods with his even more clueless son, and can't find the way out.

And for the 1st time, he's getting widespread criticism, ever since he got into it with the 105.3 radio hosts. That's why he's different. He's not comfortable.

Something feels.... different about Jerry. I can't quite tell what it is. I know he's a narcissist and all, but he just feels a bit off. Like, previously, he would just annoy me with his decision making, but he was at least funny. He at least kept an appearance that he was trying to win. As aggravating as the losing had been, there was still some entertainment from the team and from him. When I could understand his Jerryisms, there was usually a nugget of wisdom or what he said was quite funny. Now, since the Green Bay loss, something feels.... different.

The way he approached the offseason. The way he talked at the tc press conference. The way he approached the Dak and CeeDee deals. The way he's treated Mike, and the way he is currently treating Mike when it came to the Chicago situation. The entire season and the way he is still behaving feels a bit more akin to when he rage traded Amari Cooper. I can seldom understand what he says/his Jerryisms anymore, and, even when I can, they just seem much more rage induced or petty. Quite plainly, he seems meaner and angrier than normal.

Has anyone else noticed this?
He will do something out of spite just because everyone else knows and is telling him to do it the other way.

  • Age gets to us all.
  • He takes the media and fan criticism hard. He likes to be the spotlight and look good. He knows what’s being said now. He even has assistants who gather the buzz for him.
  • Frustration realizing he is going to die never having got the team back to the SB after those 90’s glory days.
  • Probably just out of ideas and growth, especially since it’s a family business. And realizes this. Or worse, doesn’t realize it.
  • The end is near. And he’s not going out on top.

Yep. Just look at the ridiculous curtain situation. No reason not to put them up like they do for concerts, other than people want him to. So he's going to show them, and not do it.

I think part of it is, as we've seen in other areas of society lately, he can't lie to the fans as easily as in the past because now we have access to more information. We know the details of the cap situation of every team now. He and his cheap son can't get on their radio shows and control the source of information anymore.

But the bottom line is, they care more about money than winning, and they still lead the Forbes list by a mile. Only twice has Jerry ceded power, and that's when the team lost money at first with Jimmy and when he needed his Monument to Himself stadium built with Parcells. Recall Jerry and Stephen bragging last offseason about having the best and fastest ticket renewal rate last offseason? That's what matters to them, not actually winning on the field.
