Marinelli's scheme works best when paired with a good offense that can control the ball and put up points. Which this offense is when Romo and Dez play together. But take that away and put it into a low scoring affair and an opponents offense has no need to press.

Opposing teams play as if it were poker. They would wait till the very last minutes of the game until they show their hand against our defense. They throw in that last minute wrinkle which surprises our defense.

Teams don't find it a need to score a lot against us because they know that our offense is in effective. They just know that they just need to get the ball back during crunch time. Then they adjust their offense towards our defense - knowing full well that were not going to make any type of adjustment. Thats why we lose sooo many close games. We are so damn predictable in all phases of the game that its almost comical. Too bad the last laugh is against Dallas.

If teams could score on every possession, of course they would. They save up a play or two to use when they need them like every team does, but there's nothing unusual about that.

Our problem isn't with our scheme. It's with our execution.

13, 13, 20 and 10 points allowed last 4 weeks. The defense isn't the issue.

EXACTLY when a defense is giving up pts like that in todays nfl... how in the world can the defense be such a BIG issue with this team? smh

The defense isn't giving up many points, but they are breaking at crucial moments. This defense has given up entirely too many last minute game winning drives to be considered good. The defense has also completely folded in OT games. This defense tends to fold to pressure. When the opposing offense gets desperate, this defense hasn't shown the ability to match the tenacity.

That last int by Heath was the stop in my opinion that shld hv wont the game but we went 3 and out on offense and also in bad field position, so yea keep giving nfl teams more opportunities to score and feild position then yea im sure you will get figured out in a close game and the other team hits a play or 2

If the offense could put the ball in the end zone these "crucial moments" would either be nothing because of the opponent needing to throw to keep up, or would be meaningless garbage time touchdowns.

The defense is doing an outstanding job, even without making adjustments.

If the defense gives up the game losing TD in 5 of the last seven games, i.e. couldn't get a stop when it was absolutely necessary on 5 separate attempts, then you can lay some blame at the feet of the defense.

How many points did the offense score in those games? The Eagles game is really the only one that you can lay at the feet of the defense, and that happens in the NFL sometimes.

One of the hosts asked the other one if there are any issues in the locker room...

He stated that a few of the players are grumbling about the lack of adjustments that Marinelli makes. His philosophy is old school in that he says he will stick with the original gameplan and refuses to adjust as it is up to players to execute...

Obvious. He's also like Parcells - he has "his guys" and they play no matter what.

There is literally no reason why David Irving should not be starting at 1-Tech. Every time he's in the game he obliterates double-team blocks. Instead, Nick Hayden, which is nickname, gets the nod -- and continues to get blown off the line of scrimmage against the run. Teams literally run right at him all the time.

I don't even remember seeing Irving on the field against Tampa. It's frustrating.

In my opinion, when you are in a 1 score differential game, it isn't what happens in the first 55 minutes that defines how you played....it is what did you do in the last 5 minutes when the game is on the line....and on 5 separate occasions, the defense cracked when we needed them to get a stop the most. Therefore you cannot absolve the defense of blame. They deserve their fair share of critique when they failed at the most crucial time of the game. This does not mean that I think they solely are to blame.....just that they are just as much a part of the reason we lost as is the offense (but neither is as much as coaching ;)).

Marinelli is a lot of things, but I did see him once on the field failing to pressure QB, stop a run or cover a receiver.
