That's my point. He gave a head and shoulder fake to the outside while Roy was still 7-10 yards from him. I can see that fake working if Roy is right up on him tight in coverage. But Roy was near the goalline. He needed to keep his hips square and break on the ball. He's so "gunshy" about getting beat deep that he's ready to sprint back even when he's already at the goalline. Getting beat deep is in his psyche and it shows. Similar to Steve Sax or Chuck Knoblauch when they could no longer throw to first base from second.

I agree. Your point is different than the first post in this thread. It seems to imply that Roy broke to the outside for no reason. That he saw Cooley break to the inside, but still broke to the outside for the heck of it. He bit on a fake and bit hard. That happens and needs and can be corrected.

Some of that is true but the outta here is not. He just signed a new contract. He'll be here a while longer.

In my view, Roy Williams is far more interested in blowing people up than he is in defending against passes. I think he is more interested in hitting the receiver than he is knocking the pass down. Yes, he makes a few spectacular hits but he lets a lot more receivers catch the ball than I am comfortable with. He needs to come out on obvious passing downs and let someone with better pass defending skills get some playing time. The closer he plays to the LoS, the better player he is.

I haven't seen the statistics, but it wouldn't surprise me to see that he has given up more TDs than he has passes defended - just a guess.
I like him in the game on running situations, but sometimes I wonder if he has the intellectual capacity to defend against passes; he seemed to not know where to go on several plays yesterday and often ran away from where the play was going - Has Washington studied his tendencies and game planned around his ways?

I'm neither for nor against Roy, I just want to see a little better pass defense, somehow or another by someone or another.

he now breaks the wrong way in coverage. Thats an added twist to his puzzling coverage skills. Not only cant he run with WR and TE anymore...no longer does he take poor angles....no longer is he poor in blitzing ability...but he now breaks the wrong way in coverage and lacks closing speed to make up for it. In my 25+ years of watching the cowboys....I have never seen a player free fall into obscurity like this guy.

Can't argue with you there. when i see the ball in the air im hoping that its no where near Roy. So sad to say....he's a good dude but really looks lost in coverage.

Just think...

If we are fortunate enough to make the superbowl... Tom Brady will have a field day picking what's left of the meat on Roy Williams' bones....

Just think....
Patriots 54 Cowboys 17
How do those dreams strike ya!!!!

Time to BOO Roy Williams off the field Thursday!!!

Jerry Jones knows marketing and Roy Williams doesn't sell around here anymore!!!

Just like most teams, any bad player can be booed off the field with persistance....

And the HITS just ain't coming from Roy anymore!!!

They threw 55 passes yesterday. Chris Cooley is an elite TE. Eventually, everyone on our defense looked foolish - 55 passes and a faltering pass rush will do that to you.

I'm good with what Roy is. As a SS, he's average in coverage. I don't even think anyone could mention many more SS's who are better in coverage than he is, and if they did, it would all be conjecture anyway. The "Roy bashers" are right - he isn't great in coverage. Not may SS's are. The problem I am having with him currently is that he isn't making game-changing plays all that often. I can live with a few mishaps in coverage, because those happen to all safeties. But, the elite ones make the opposition pay by making nice breaks on balls, nabbing INTs and making bone-jarring hits.

So far this season, Roy really has only 2-3 outstanding plays. He made IIRC a great pass-defense on an out that he jumped in game 1 against the Giants, he defensed another pass saving a TD against the Vikings, and this week he made an outstanding open field tackle against Cooley to prevent a first down.

Are these enough to justify his standing as an elite safety in the mind of our fan base?

I'm not sure. My once sparkling opinion of Roy is diminished this season.

But still - we had 30+ passes completed on us yesterday. And you'd struggle to put more than 8 of those on Roy, I think. Yet he's the player we focus on. Would we do the same to Hamlin for not dropping deep if Campbell and Moss could have connected on that TD where Reeves was beaten badly? I doubt it.

So, the Roy bashers toss out hyperbole in the form of "sucks", etc. - and the "Roy homers" don't want to hear that junk. And so we have 200+ post threads where neither side is willing to find any sort of middle ground. Personally, I'm sick to death of it. I wish Roy would make some big plays. I wish Jacques Reeves didn't suck so hard. I wish Ken Hamlin didn't miss tackles and make over-aggressive breaks on play and pump-fakes. I wish Terrence Newman had better hands. I wish Anthony Henry was healthy. I wish I could enjoy Cowboyszone without being bombarded with hyperbolic Anti-and Pro-Roy flame fests after a dramatic win over a division rival to put my Dallas Cowboys at 9-1, the best Cowboys squad I've ever seen.

I'm out of the Roy sucks/doesn't suck business. Too much hassle for a player who isn't making enough big plays for my tastes. How 'bout that DeMarcus Ware? How 'bout that TO? How 'bout that Tony Romo? How 'bout them 9-1 Dallas Cowboys? Life's pretty good for a Cowboys fan right now. The pettiness is unnecessary.
It's travesty this post is getting skipped over.

Then again...the sky is falling. After all, we're only 9-1.

Tends to happen if you take up more than 50 words in a "Trash [insert controversial player name here] thread" :laugh2:

BLEU3ASY, I feel the same way whenever I see the ball in the air, I just "hope" that it's not going in Roy's direction.

You got that right. Then again you are the Lawgiver.

Hey, it's a good thing we've got the deep snap in the shotgun working to perfection huh? I'd hate to have fans worrying about that.

How about the wonderful kickoff coverage team we had yesterday?
or
More stupid penalties?
or
The lack of pressure from anyone not named Ware?
