I've adjusted your statements in order to generate more interest and discussion in these VERY real problems. Take notes.
Excellent points, let's start 3 separate threads each devoted to your topics !

They threw 55 passes yesterday. Chris Cooley is an elite TE. Eventually, everyone on our defense looked foolish - 55 passes and a faltering pass rush will do that to you.

I'm good with what Roy is. As a SS, he's average in coverage. I don't even think anyone could mention many more SS's who are better in coverage than he is, and if they did, it would all be conjecture anyway. The "Roy bashers" are right - he isn't great in coverage. Not may SS's are. The problem I am having with him currently is that he isn't making game-changing plays all that often. I can live with a few mishaps in coverage, because those happen to all safeties. But, the elite ones make the opposition pay by making nice breaks on balls, nabbing INTs and making bone-jarring hits.

So far this season, Roy really has only 2-3 outstanding plays. He made IIRC a great pass-defense on an out that he jumped in game 1 against the Giants, he defensed another pass saving a TD against the Vikings, and this week he made an outstanding open field tackle against Cooley to prevent a first down.

Are these enough to justify his standing as an elite safety in the mind of our fan base?

I'm not sure. My once sparkling opinion of Roy is diminished this season.

But still - we had 30+ passes completed on us yesterday. And you'd struggle to put more than 8 of those on Roy, I think. Yet he's the player we focus on. Would we do the same to Hamlin for not dropping deep if Campbell and Moss could have connected on that TD where Reeves was beaten badly? I doubt it.

So, the Roy bashers toss out hyperbole in the form of "sucks", etc. - and the "Roy homers" don't want to hear that junk. And so we have 200+ post threads where neither side is willing to find any sort of middle ground. Personally, I'm sick to death of it. I wish Roy would make some big plays. I wish Jacques Reeves didn't suck so hard. I wish Ken Hamlin didn't miss tackles and make over-aggressive breaks on play and pump-fakes. I wish Terrence Newman had better hands. I wish Anthony Henry was healthy. I wish I could enjoy Cowboyszone without being bombarded with hyperbolic Anti-and Pro-Roy flame fests after a dramatic win over a division rival to put my Dallas Cowboys at 9-1, the best Cowboys squad I've ever seen.

I'm out of the Roy sucks/doesn't suck business. Too much hassle for a player who isn't making enough big plays for my tastes. How 'bout that DeMarcus Ware? How 'bout that TO? How 'bout that Tony Romo? How 'bout them 9-1 Dallas Cowboys? Life's pretty good for a Cowboys fan right now. The pettiness is unnecessary.

This is actually the best post I have seen on the topic of Mr. Williams.

Kudos, superpunk!

I like Roy alot and will always have his back while he is a Cowboy, but there were several times yesterday I noticed him break the wrong way... Not sure what he was/is keying on, but something has to change there.

The thing that really concerns me is that he is not playing the way he ways when he came in to the league. Specifically the way he hits. I remember the firs couple of years he would absolutely cream at least one member of the other team per game. He would always make a huge hit that got the D fired up... While the tackle he made yesterday to save the first down was great, he didn't bring the thunder like he used to. I wonder if he has nagging injuries that are keeping him from bringing the whole load like he used to on a hit. Something is different there, too bad it is tough to put a finger on...

I wish the Mods would create a "Roy sucks zone" so all these children would have a place to cry.

Don't you think that might (Roy Williams sucks) be a little overkill?

This is just like the Mavs season last year. Most people knew the Mavs had major deficiencies, but they chose to ignore them simply because they were winning.

Between the lack of coverage skills and the drop in hits (though his tackling is somewhat better), Roy appears to be well on his way to one-dimensional, and it's tough to create a championship-caliber defense when that kind of hole exists.

That may be the one thing that gives opposing OCs hope facing this team: there are yards to be had.

I HOPE everyone saw this:

• I don’t really want to dive back into the Roy Williams fun bag today. Once again, the opposing Tight End was isolated a fair amount against him and had a huge day. But I do want to make this point: One thing that does not endear his work to my sensibilities is that when he is on the scene of a big pass play, he is quick to throw his arms up in disbelief that his teammate would screw up so badly. I believe this is a result of ridicule, and now his defense mechanism is to instantly claim his innocence to the world whenever someone catches a ball around him. But it looks Bush League. It looks like a guy who is ready to show up a mate in the name of passing the buck. I want my leader to lead, and part of that is not always making sure he is blameless rather than remembering the object of the game is to stop the defense. Not to protect your own hide. On the Cooley touchdown, he was once again trying to light up Bradie James after the play. James wasn’t hearing it and was yelling right back. According to a source, it was more Roy than Bradie, if you weren’t sure who screwed up on that Cover 2 Touchdown.
