Why doesn't Dak step up in the pocket and avoid about half of these sacks? Is it just me or does he seem to always go back during the rush? I swear these coaches are just not teaching him the little things that would make a big difference. I don't think Garrett is going anywhere but lord we need a QB coach.........
When Collins was at Guard, the pressure was coming up the middle regularly, just as we did vs Brees. Filo has been stronger, but with a bum ankle, he gave up middle pressure this week as well. Martin isn’t at full strength, and despite the praise for Looney, he’s not Frederick, not close. Add the weakness up the middle with Collins whiffing a couple times per game and Tyron being out, that’s pressure off the edges too.
Dak has walked into sacks trying to climb the pocket, and he’s rolled into sacks trying to get outside and keep his eyes downfield.
What some call a lack of pocket awareness, I see as a QB trying to stand tough in the pocket, ala Aikman, and take the hit in exchange for delivering a last second pass.
My complaint is that we all know a lot of our plays require time to develop, but Dak has to know how long each play takes and give up on it sooner....throw it away, take off running sooner.....he will get blasted for both when a receiver breaks free at the last second, but not giving up on plays is what’s leading to these fumbles.
Regardless of silly fans calling for more downfield shots when the protection is breaking down, just check it down to give someone a chance or throw it away. Those are smart decisions when you finally have a decent defense, whether fans complain or not.
