That's why you have to have strong coaches. The coaches have to protect the players from themselves. I know Micah wants to play the entire game, but the coaches need to have the fortitude to say "We need you for the duration, so you WILL sit out the rest of the game.

That is what usually makes good players be great players, the will and drive to keep going.

It also creates and helps foster that attitude among the team as a whole, and puts the coaches in a position to assert themselves as team first leaders. Win/Win.
