Sounds like Tony Romo is following Jerry Jones wishes
When Jerry Jones told the world about the inner workings of Tony Romo’s latest contract many were stunned to learn he told the star QB to start spending some ‘Peyton Manning like’ time at Valley Ranch this offseason.
But what about all that golf that Romo loves to play?
Seems like those days are over for Romo, read here.

For those scoring at home: Tony Romo has passed on playing the Azalea Invitational in Charleston, S.C., one of the better amateur tournaments anywhere, the local Adams Golf Pro/Scratch, which he has won in the past, and will not attempt to qualify for the HP Byron Nelson Championship or the U.S. Open.
Interesting. I do know Romo put in an application to be able to play in the qualifying tournaments around the country. These were filed a few months ago. Now maybe Romo’s people just file them every year? In either case it’s Romo changing up his lifestyle a little bit to abide by Jerry’s wishes.

So, now romo is going to give up all these golf stuff, basketball stuff, and other stuff in offseaon to be in offseason more which he should have done in first place. But now romo is doing this basically for more money. To me, if your the leader of the dallas cowboys as the QB, you should have done this in the first place, but it took money and jerry jones saying something about it for romo to give this stuff up and lead the cowboys like he should have in the first place. You know me, most of you, I have harped on this for a long time and some of you got upset at me for my talking about romo and his extra golf/basketball stuff, so now who is right? I have spoken my peace.

I wonder if Jerry spends as much time in the FO as Ozzie Newsome....I bet not.

It's everyone's fault for the Cowboy's failure....except JJ.

For the record, I'm not among those who believed Tony Romo allowed golf to interfere with football

Tony Romo is reducing his golf tournament schedule. More likely the reality of having young family than new Peyton Manning-type commitment

Once again, Michael Irvin used to do blow with hookers in his spare time. Who cares that TR plays a little golf? This obsession with this man's hobby is creepy. Lots of famous professional athletes have been excellent in their respective sports and played golf in the off-season. It doesn't matter.

Hope Tony is doing this because he wants to and not because he feels forced. Sometimes, it is good for someone's mental health to be able to get away and relax doing something they love. I never had a problem with him playing golf in the off-season.

Let's also glance over the variables of him being a married man with a child, now. Because those don't change extra-curricular activities at all, right?

Saying OP is full of it is a little harsh, I just think he's reading too far into it. Im sure Romo could handle golf and off season work at the same time.

It's an interesting point though because i was talking to an ex-cowboy last year, and he said he didn't think Romo would have that great a year because he was married with a kid on the way. Whatever the truth to it, it's still important to remember that these guys are human and they do have social lives.

This is more likely than the OP's typical take.

Anyway, the main difference between playing some golf or in a tourney in your free time vs
fishing
hunting
Shooting commercials
playing basketball or whatever w/ friends
going on secluded trips
staying at home and watching TV all day
staying at home with family
going to church type stuff
taking an online class
doing charity work
just sitting around the house being a slob or playing on the internet

and hundreds of other things....

is NOT the time commitment.

The difference is that playing in a golf tourney just so happens to be public.

This has always been an extremely simple-minded issue, imo.

The OP does this every year ...... then about mid year he jumps on the Romo bandwagon only to jump off again at first chance.

He is full of it.

This is the most honest i've ever seen TR respond to some of those questions. It's very refreshing.

TR can play golf if he wants to. My take is that if you have a problem with your athletic qb playing another competitive sport, you're an idiot. I've never doubted Romo's commitment. I'm pretty sure he wants to silence the naysayers by the end of his journey.

I would have to say the new mega contract was humbling and convicted him to step up his game and commitment to getting to the next level and beyond. I don't mind him playing golf in the off season, beats sitting around watching Oprah and Springer shows like Tom Brady and RG3...

The Flarety interview was from last year, I'm sure Romo still has a life as do all players outside of football. They do not go out 24/7 all year long, if you did you would get burned out. All this crap is stupid, Do you work 7 days a week no break just do your job? Get real

My opinion is, I generally don't care what a person does in the offseason, as long as his team is a winning franchise. For me personally, if I'm not getting my team anywhere, then I'm going to dedicate 110% to my team until we are a great team, and then I will do other things. He's hired to play football, and football is year around in pro, College, and now High School.
