2020 was more a result of OL injuries and an awful defense than it was a lack of a QB.

I imagine they are thinking of 2015, when they gave Weeden a chance and then switched to Cassel when he was ineffective. Cassel was actually worse.
They don't want to try anything too progressive!

Honestly what are they going to do? They mismanaged the QB position for years. Rush is the only option. Even if you go out and get a vet its going to take 2-3 weeks to get him halfway up to speed. Plus I wouldn't trade draft capital as this team is going no where this year. Only option roll with Rush for a couple weeks and maybe get a FA vet who might not be any better than Rush.

I view this as good news because…..

1. He, at least, will throw deep balls to keep the defense honest.
2. If he stinks it up, it should free up his roster spot for good next season, not even PS.
