I literally posted an article from NBC Sports. Did you read the article? It has Hopkins own comments.

Cap isn't the same as cash though. They have to pay him cash to keep him.

The implication is that the Cardinals know they aren't going to be contenders. Getting large cap hits off their books over the next few years while relying on draft to replenish and saving the cash. It's good business and good team building when you are in a rebuilding phase. Then you are potentially set up to be aggressive when you think your core is ready.

Right, so they’re just paying the QB with no one to throw to, and 14m in unavailable cap because it’s fun. If Micah said he wanted to be traded to the Bears for a 3rd, you think Jerry would do it to not pay cash?

If I was betting money today I’d say a guard will be 26
But things can change and you get someone falling like Lamb did and it can change everythibg
They dropped a 1st on a guard last year. I’d bet they go Tyron LT, Tyler G, with Waletzko and Farniok and late round guard as the backups!

If he still had veto power and they still wanted to trade him he could basically force he way wherever he wanted

At his salary, should be a late round draft pick.
You don't give high draft picks for high salaried non elite players.
Especially ones starting to decline
you clearly do not watch games besides the Cowboys. Since I am heavily into Fantasy Football, I have 4 games going on at the same time every weekend. Since Hopkins was on my team, I paid close attention to him. As soon as he returned from suspension, he was a man playing with boys. I think he had 14 catches as soon as he came back, then had to play with a hodgepodge of QBs. Hopkins on Dalllas could be a 110 catch, 1400 yard, 10 td guy.

Very true, and I agree.
The draft always brings a certain degree of unpredictability.
I wouldn't mind the UT RB, should he fall.

Not negatively supporting, or pro-supporting this trade, but people thinking just draft a WR need to pay attention to the history of rookie WR's.
Like OL, they generally take time to develop unless they are just monster talents.
That is the rule and there are exceptions, but just saying...
go read the articles last year after the draft saying how great the pick for Tolbert was..... well, we know how that ended up. We could use a 1st rd pick in the draft on a wr and would pray the guy ends up playing like Hopkins. Get hopkins and you wont need to pray.

We own every other draft pick moving forward over the next several years. This isn’t mortgaging the future- this isn’t throwing picks away recklessly.

You’re taking about 1 premium draft pick out of how many that we own over the next years of drafts….no offense to you but gimme a break
Reports are the Cardinals are asking for a premium second day pick and more for Hopkins. It may not take mortgaging the future to get him but it’s going to take a hefty price for a 30 year old receiver whose numbers have dropped the past couple of years. Jerry moved on from some players because of availability and Hopkins hasn’t been very available the past two seasons. There’s a reason the Cardinals are willing to move on from him. It’s not like anyone is jumping at the opportunity to trade for him.

Jerry has the easiest trade of his life and will mess it up
I see your comment and 16 folks that agreed

so what do you offer AZ that will get the trade done and how much salary and cap do you pay to go with it?

Honest question.
easiest trade of his life so it must be an easy answer

If you don't want to actually understand anything you are commenting on .... you'll fit right in here.

They are willing to move on because they took their shot and came up short. Now it is time to unload his salary.

Thanks, you're correct
I don't watch other NFL games.
Other posters have commented that his skills have diminished somewhat.
I know he has a large contract as well.
So , not a player I would give a high draft pick for.

He’s chasing after a player who isn’t as good and has played less who has a higher chance of being a distraction off the field and on the field- whose openly mocking the offers he’s receiving and wants a salary rumored to be higher than Hopkins.

And If the 20m ask is wrong- he still wants something in the Gallup range that’s heavily incentive based and he’s a guy who already complains about touches. Yes, he doesn’t cost a draft pick but throwing 11-12m at minimum on the HOPE a player who hasn’t been a pro bowler since 2016 and hasn’t played in 2 years can still play is a joke.

The cardinals are moving on from him because they are rebuilding and because their starting quarterback may miss half of next year- and it saves them cap money. While his skills aren’t what they were- he’s still very good and you have no idea who is or isn’t jumping st the chance to trade for him…new england is rumored , the chiefs are rumored etc both franchise who have a pretty decent track record historically

He’s average salary for the next 2 years is $17 and that’s before anything is even done to it…

The last time Jerry traded away multiple picks, including a premium draft pick for a WR was Joey Galloway and Roy Williams and he got screwed on both deals. Those were young receivers who didn’t have back to back subpar seasons. As for OBJ I’m not on the board with bringing him in but at least he won’t cost us draft picks, including premium pick.

They wouldn’t be moving on if he didn’t have the back to back seasons he’s coming off. He hasn’t been dependable and he’s aging. They’re not winning with him. There’s two positives with OBJ over Hopkins. He won’t cost us any draft picks and he helped lead a team to a championship.
