He isn't even going to dress......2.5m is way too much for an insurance policy for one position....most OTs can slide inside if Looney couldn't handle it.....we know Free can

weakening the OL depth will turn the biggest strength to question marks in case of a single injury.

leary is the most proven backup on the entire OL, by far.
he is not going to dress because looney will backup both C and G.
if the injury to a guard last more than 1 game, leary is the starter with looney again as backup.

looney is in the bottom 1/3 of all guards.
he is a better run blocker than pass blocker
do you really want looney to protect romo if the starting guards get hurt.

yes, free can backup at OG, but then who takes free's place to protect romo at rt?
or are you counting on green to backup OT - though we all know green has not played a single down.
if you are counting on brown, brown was rated as the worst OT ratings in the league by PFF and only an emergency experienced backup.

if these guys can't play then get rid of them....we are rolling without a capable backup QB, I think we can get by at LG.....if something serious happens then make a trade or sign a FA........2.5m is starter money

the strength of the team is the ol - we are going to weaken our most proven depth at ol in leary?
we did not draft a replacement yet.

look at the alternative - looney.
i think leary is a much better player that can backup both guard spots.
remember martin was hurt last year in camp.
looney is mostly for c and same-game emergency guard backup.
if starting g is hurt for more than 1 game, leary will start.

our backups at ot is stronger - green and brown.

I agree. Solution is to sign Amini Silatolu to compete with Looney for backup C/G before trading Leary. Silatolu is a quality starter who is still recovering from injury so value is low now. Could be a Marco Columbo type futures signing.

Feel same way about signing Culliver in anticipation of losing Mo and/or Carr.

Reasoning makes no sense, if back up QB is incapable then protecting the health of starting QB with quality OL depth is even more critical. And I'm sure Leary can play both OG spots at much higher level than Looney and any of the backup OGs in OTAs, so your passive aggressive name calling ("LG" only) is unseeming in addition to being misplaced.

Leary's greatest value is being a solid starting caliber guard to back up both LG and RG spots.
I would tell him if he wasn't happy not starting then get his butt in camp and win the starting position.
No one is going to offer you an acceptable deal for him anyway and I ain't getting rid of him just because he is butt hurt. I keep him for one more year and then let him ride off into the sunset.

if romo gets hurt, it does not matter any more because romo is done and we are tanking
if a key OL gets hurt, it does matter because it can end our season by getting romo hurt.

Instead of repeating the same line over and over like it is unavoidable maybe we should take the 10m we are wasting on Leary, Gachkar, DMC, Wilcox and McClain and sign a real QB2

no qb2 is going to replace romo.
if romo goes down, we may as well tank the season and get a better draft pick.

you get romo killed by weakening the ol, we lose 2 years wandering in the wilderness.

agree on cutting gachkar, mcclain and either wilcox or church.
though these can take care of themselves if injuries happen during camp.

Not terribly surprised. Given his circumstance I probably would have done the same thinig. Now the question is do we grant his request and what could we get?

I don't think they do anything, nor should they. He's got zero leverage and will ultimately show up, play his role, and get paid.

Rather than playing games with not showing up and changing his Twitter profile, his agent should be drumming up interest around the league to get another team to make Dallas an acceptable offer. Anything else is an immature waste of time.

Given what other teams have at the position, I'm shocked Leary wasn't traded during the draft.

What makes you think someone is going to sign Leary to a big money deal after having not played for two years?

If teams believe he is healthy, he will get paid in FA as a good starting OG. The league knows the only reason he's not starting here now is because Dallas has 2 young studs at OG. Leary has already put together 2 seasons worth of solid film as a starter.

Agreed.
With Leary's contract details, does anyone doubt his agent is full of crap.
This is by far his biggest pay day.
He would be insane to skip any games
A single game = pay from 1/4 of a season in previous years

Based on what Jeremy Parnell got paid, I think Leary will also get paid.

Maybe a 3 or 4 year deal, or just not a large signing bonus or guaranteed money, but he will still probably get paid around 5-6 million a year is my guess.

He should go join Parnell and mackenzy bernadeau in Jacksonville.

I see him getting similar to what you stated. Bernie got two years, three million.

I love how the Jaguars are putting together an offensive line with our cast aways... It would be very fitting. But the only way I see Leary leaving this year is if somehow a team who thinks they can win the super bowl loses their best starting guard. It's a real long shot.

But Parnell is a T. I thought Ts get paid more than Gs? If I'm right, I don't see Leary getting as much as Parnell did.

salary inflation during to rapid rising cap.
leary is far more proven than parnell, though there is long term knee concern...
