Spagnola: Gary is Just what the Doctor Ordered

Majority feels they are better off now. And the biggest reason. They got beat character players, like 6 of them over ONE loud mouth player.
The point is that this idea is based on flawed logic.

There is no player they've acquired that having Micah would preclude them from acquiring.

The fact that you don't like Micah as a person is meaningless.

My logic is much less flawed than yours. Matter of fact my logic is not flawed at all. And you are assuming I do not like Micah. I never said that.
I said he disappeared at the end of the season.

There is no proof they could have acquired the players and kept Micah. So you are saying they would pay Micah his $47 million per year, then also acquire Clark and Williams and pay then what to stated in your post. No way they would or could have went out and acquired them if the kept Micah.

Go back over your numbers and tell us how it would be possible. Don't forget the FA's they were able to bring in also, such as Thompson.
And they kept Pickens as well.

It's gonna be mediocre, only because CP will have these guys over performing. It didn't have to be that bad last year. It just was. Because Eberflus was so bad.

Overshown having a year more to heal is huge.
I don't know what it's going to be, which is the point. There's a lot of hope, and that's understandable, but right now, that's all it is.

The way fans are talking about Parker is no different than how Zimmer and Eberflus were viewed at points in their career. They were once the up-ando-comers. They came back here and failed, and the common denominator is the front office providing the talent.

We have some questions to be answered at rush end. In a passing league, getting pressure is paramount. We have Gary, who has probably been fairly compared to DeMarcus Lawrence at this point in his career. But do we have anyone who can provide consistent pressure on the other side? Malachi Lawrence could be Micah Parsons or he could be Shante Carver, or somewhere in between. Can Eze step up from what we saw last year or will he take a step back coming off surgery? Can Parker get more out of players like James Houston and Sam Williams?

If the ends can't create enough of a rush, we'll have to blitz more for pressure, which leaves holes in your pass defense.

Speaking of pass defense, are our corners good enough? I mean, Parker comes from a system that uses a lot of zone and our corners really struggled with zone last year. (Of course, they struggled with man, too.) Bland is coming off his second foot surgery. Revel didn't show much coming back from his injury. And the main additions are a fourth-round pick and a cheap free agent (Durant) whom the Rams actively worked to replace after last season. Durant is on a one-year prove-it deal.

Even at linebacker, we're relying on Overshown being better the second year removed from his injury and a starting linebacker who we got for a fifth-round pick. Maybe Winters is great, but when we traded for Murray last year, he was coming off a 3.5-sack season and his tackle numbers were similar to what Winters produced. I really like the potential of the rookie pick Barham but have no idea how good he'll be.

Defensive tackle should be a strength with Quinnen and Clark, but when we use three linemen, I can't say I know if Ogbonnia or Bullard add much (or the rookie Overton). I believe both are considered good run-stoppers, but when teams pass when they are out there, not much should be expected from them. The value of those players compared to Ogihizuwa's clearly are not equal both compensation and pickwise.

Safety definitely looks like it should be improved with Thompson and Downs, our top free agent signing in years and one of the top players in the draft, but teams attack weak links and try to avoid strengths, so it's hard to say right now that we won't have some to attack.

We had a lot last year, so it won't take much to improve from that, but improving slightly won't mean much for a team that had a historically bad defense.

Really for me what's more important it seems to be the theme of the day is what's his playoff record What's his winning percentage against above 500 teams? Just curious since defensive end should also carry a team How is he in big games against better talent?

It true rumor has it he was going to be cut anyway the Cowboys could have got him for free I don't know these are the themes for the day I am going to talk about every single position on the field and ask what their playoff record is because yes, every player is responsible for a playoff record OK.

Just want to be sure we have all the facts it's how they play in big games and big moments, how are they in comebacks. How is he when their team is down, I mean did he get two or three sacks in the 4th quarter?

I just want to be sure we got the right guy...

:muttley: .
It was probably a rumor for GB (fans or media) to save face he was not going to be on the team anymore.
And many teams do this. They will trade for a player they believe will help their team. regardless if it was rumored he will be cut. Then they have to bid for him as a FA.

I do not buy that rumor at all. It only happens with Jerry. Cut if they can't work out a trade. We know this for a fact, he said it several times. As where we did not hear this directly from GB.

I did overlook that pick. Well that sorta shifts things a tad in the other direction, no lol? Nice catch.

Still like the deal. Yeah of course there’s a lot TBD on that swap, but I’d still rather have the better players on the inside. Those are tough to find. Yes Parsons is elite, but if your DTs are stout, you can put together a decent rotation for edge, which I believe they have done. The DL as a whole is a much better room than it was 10-11 months ago.
I think like most things (since this is a message board) there is a rush to judgment. Whether we could have added this player or that player if we had re-signed Parsons is immaterial to me, because we don't know if we would have done it (and based on the history of this front office, we know it's quite a bit more likely that they would not have).

To me, it just comes down to are we better off on defense without Micah than we were with him? Last year, I can't say that we were. I have no idea what kind of difference he would have made, but I do know that we had a historically bad defense and we did not have that when he was here. Also, if he was here instead of Green Bay, maybe he doesn't tear his ACL, so that point is kind of moot to me.

I guess my simple grading rubric will be is our defense this year better than any defense we put out there with Micah? And that we'll be my criteria throughout this contract with Green Bay. Yes, I know there are other factors that make that straight-up comparison faulty, but all I want (with Micah or without) is the best defense we've put out there. If we get that and fans want to crow that we won the Micah trade, I'm OK with that. Bragging that we won the trade when we're coming off a defensive stinker in 2025 seems kind of hollow to me.

Especially nice point in paragraph one.

Bottom line for me is I would rather have my better DL guys on the inside than out. Of course you want it all, but being realistic, I’m happy with this direction, even though, to say it again, it was not their plan A.

They could have acquired Quinnen Williams without trading Parsons and actually improved.
My personal opinion is the cost of Parsons contract minus Kenny Clark plus minus draft capital is a no brainer. We are a better team when it's added up. You may of course disagree.

One thing that is going to be a huge factor when assessing if the trade was worth making is if Parsons is the same player off this injury. It shouldn’t be, since theres no way to know if that would have happened if he wasn’t traded.

What I do know is that if they didn’t deal him, AND he got hurt the same way, we wouldn’t have either of Clark or QW or Parsons. OSA instead of Barham, as well as paying Parsons whatever absurd figure they gave him. Maybe they don’t sign Thompson. They certainly don’t trade for Gary. Things would be much more grim. Promise.

You don't like him or you wouldn't cry that he's a "loudmouth."

Your logic is based on the idea that they couldn't have acquired the same players without trading Micah. That only applies to Lawrence.

The proof that your logic is wrong is simply dollars and cents. They have $5.5m cap space right now. Subtract Lawrence ($3.7) and extend or restructure QW (~$14m) - forget Pickens or even Gary - and you've created enough cap space to add Micah's cap hit ($19m). Takes 30 seconds of math.

I don't really follow your logic.

They haven't added any players that they could not afford with Micah.

They haven't yet given the, but they will. QW's extension will be in Jeffrey Simmons' range at over $35m.

What breakdown do you want? QW's current cap hit is ~$21m. Micah's is ~$19m.

AAV: Micah - $46.5m.
AAV: QW, Clark = $45.3m. QW, Clark, Gary = $61m.

The roster is not better or did you not watch last year lol. They haven't added anyone they couldn't have added anyway except for Lawrence. They could have signed Micah, traded the same picks for QW, kept Osa, and still drafted Downs.
Qs cap hit alone is higher than Micah’s this year. Q and Clark combined are coming close to $40m. Q is almost certain to get a massive extension at some point too.

The draft capital is almost a moot point. You acquired two premium picks for parson and gave up two premium picks for Q. The only real difference at this point is you get Lawrence instead of whoever you would have taken in round 2. TBD of the 2027 draft would really be affected or not since we gave up the better of our 2 1st rounders. If that pick is GBs it’s a neutral move.

I have no issues with them trading parsons however we need to be real about the swap. Outside of getting Kenny Clark and Lawrence there is no move the cowboys couldn’t have still done with parsons on the roster.
You guys need to stop being so negative in this sunshine-pumping thread. Let the people will things to truth that aren't actually true because they need them to be true. Lol.

Micah really doesn’t get expensive until 2028. He’s only a $19m cap hit for this season.

The most likely scenario is that Micah is either cut or extended after the 2028 season and will never see a $47m cap hit. The contract structure GB gave him is actually very team friendly from a cap standpoint. The issue as with all backloaded deals is it cost the team more cash up front….which I’m still trying to figure out why that’s such an issue with the Dallas fricken cowboys.

We constantly confuse a Micah parsons problem with a cheap ownership problem. Micah had his faults but the handling of his contract is way worse than his actual contract.

You guys need to stop being so negative in this sunshine-pumping thread. Let the people will things to truth that aren't actually true because they need them to be true. Lol.
It's perfectly reasonable to think there's a path for the team to get better by trading Micah.

At no point has Dallas gone down that path because of the trade. I don't really understand making up facts for it.

Do you really think that Jerry would have signed Q if he had signed Micah? I think the chances are between no and heck no. Lol

Could have and would have are two different things. Jerry would not have traded for Q if he had signed Micah.

Do you really think that Jerry would have signed Q if he had signed Micah? I think the chances are between no and heck no. Lol
Well would have and could have are not the same thing.

Jerry doesn't want to spend cash, that's kind of my point. That doesn't mean that they had to trade Micah to acquire other players.

Gary Rashan? I need to see more from this guy to believe the hype.

I do not buy that rumor at all. It only happens with Jerry.
See I almost believe you except for this it happens all around the league Deandre Hopkins about three or four years ago they couldn't find a trade partner he was cut from Arizona outright and picked up from someone else and went on to still have plenty of his career left.. He played in a SB with Kansas City,

I know they couldn't find a trade partner.. Then what did they do , OH, I guess they pulled a Jerry and just outright cut him happens a lot, i'm not going to see here while I'm too busy this afternoon and give you every example but other teams do the same thing...

Which by the way don't bring up Amari Cooper because at least we got a 5th round pick for him saved nearly $22 million in salary instead of cutting him like Deandre Hopkins and got zero for him and ate 22M in dead cap, Only to watch the same player they cut they couldn't find a trade partner for end up at least making the Super Bowl..hmmm

When you use the word, it only happens only the word only puts you in a bind because you have nowhere to go and then when somebody can give you even one example that you're wrong,

you're wrong..:muttley::popcorn::oldcouple:
