The worst kept secret in the NFL is coming to fruition ... finally.

FOX Sports has learned that the Dolphins have tabbed Dallas assistant coach Tony Sparano as their new head coach, replacing the fired Cam Cameron.

Dolphins officials this morning phoned the other candidates who interviewed and informed them of the team's decision.

Sparano was thought to be the heavy favorite from the day Bill Parcells was hired and that speculation mounted when Parcells hired Jeff Ireland away from Dallas to be the team's new GM.

Sparano is a true football guy with a no-nonsense approach and a great connection with players. Two years ago, Sean Payton tried to hire him as the Saints offensive coordinator and he asked Parcells to let him go. Parcells, then with Dallas, balked and declined the request.

He's probably pretty happy now that he did. Jim Schwartz of the Titans, Leslie Frazier of the Vikings and Rex Ryan of the Ravens also interviewed for the post

:starspin No surprise here, I wish him well. In Miami, it's going to look like an "annex" of the Cowboys team, i.e., Parcells, Ireland, and now Sparano.

And so, the destruction of the 2007 Dallas Cowboys coaching staff begins. The real question is whether anyone will be left by the time it ends.

Good for Tony. Here's hoping he helps turn that franchise around.

The Dolphins are a storied franchise like the Cowboys. (Just not as much! ;) ) It's a damn shame their fanbase sucks like it does.

I've always been a Dolphins hater. Though it only stems from having an extremely wussy mascot and logo. Football mascots should be about some form of intimidation. For baseball is ok to have a weaker mascot, but football is a brutal sport and it's mascots should reflect that. They might as well be the Miami Puppy Dogs.

The best thing about it is now Parcells and Bilicheat are in the same division!

Here is hoping the Patriots* and Bilicheat start the downward spiral. (cap wise their already on their way)

It will be interesting to see how things play out in Miami. I like Sparano but I wonder how much pull he will actually have with the Dolphins.

if he is such a sought after coach why didn't we promote Toney instead of hiring Wade ?

Within 3 years he'll be fired and back to coaching OL somewhere, it seems Ireland and Soprano power base is Parcells and you know his track record of staying places.

I dunno, I'm kinda hoping someone turns THIS franchise around. Couldn't really care less about the Dolphins or the Jersey Conman.

He interviewed for the job. Jerry like Garrett more, but hired Wade for his defensive forte and because we already had a 3-4 defense. There isn't very many great 3-4 defensive minds out there. He had to get one that knew what he was doing. The only way to get Wade was to hire him as HC. (He still had a job because Marty hadn't been fired yet. He probably would have been the Chargers HC if Marty had been fired first)

I said something about wanting the Cowboys to decline?

When and where?

Are you saying the BP will not let Tony buy the groceries? Will they even let him in the grocery store or make him wait in the car. :laugh2:

He isn't a coach anymore. All he has to do is judge talent and direct his minions. No more standing in the cold/heat, no more pressers to answer idiot questions. He just sits back and makes decisions.

I wasn't crying. I think if Sparano has some success it is a positive refelction upon the Cowboys.

I agree but do you think BP would want that setup if he was HC? How much power will Sparano have to control his own destiny? I’m not saying this will not work just interested to see how this all plays out.

I didn't say you said anything about the Cowboys, I just made a comment.

Far as I'm concerned the Dolphins, Sparano, and Parcells can piss up a rope.
