Spears being traded?

IF they are trying to trade Spears which I doubt, I would have to think that they believe Hatcher is the better option to start.

that's absolutely correct -- if first rounders get an automatic start then why would Spears start but Carpenter not?

it is like some folks around here forgot who was coaching this team Spears' first couple of years.

If parcells was here, Carp would be starting. Philipps ego isn't involved in that pick.

It wouldn't necessarily mean that. It might also mean that Spears is the better option, but the dropoff between Spears and Hatcher is less than the value of adding depth at corner.

I believe Hatcher is the real deal and Wade has a nose for 3-4 talent, let's not forget that... I believe Hatcher and Ratliff are going to big time ballers for Dallas in 2007.

Maybe he's starting because he's better than the other guys behind him? I mean, that's what I'd think. Forget the #1 pick talk, new coaching staff should mean something.

As for what type of CB you get, if it's to get a 4th CB, that would be the dumbest trade the Cowboys could make. Similar to the Skins TJ Duckett trade from last year.

If there's a trade to be had, then you trade what you have a glut of for more depth at a position you're short. So where are the 'boys flush w/depth? Surely not DL, no matter what people think.

It would surprise me NONE, if Spears is not starting by the end of the year.

As for trading him for a 4th CB, that is obvious and that was the point of my previous post. Depends on what w're getting for him.

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me exactly what Spears has done since he's been here that has been remotely impressive.

I didn't like the pick the second it was made, and while I was looking for a reason to be wrong, I haven't found that reason yet.

Why on earth would Philips' ego be involved in the Spears pick, but not the Carpenter pick?

I believe Spears is better suited for a 4-3 defense honestly...

I agree with this.

think man

if they are trading a starting DE for a CB, its because they know something about one of our current starting CB's (initials TN) that isnt very good...like maybe he's gonna be out for awhile

thats why

David

I'm not referencing the trade. Depending on who the cb is, it could be very stupid indeed. But your post made it seem unthinkable, as if Spears were indispensable or something. He's not. It's Year 3 and we're still talking about his "potential." Ditto Canty. The notion that we would morph into the Chargers simply because we stole their coach is laughable. Ware is not Merriman (sorry). Spencer is not Phillips. Spears is not Castillo. Fergy is not Jamal Williams. And so on. How many sacks did we rack up this pre-season? Or are we seducing ourselves into thinking we were "holding something back." I'm pretty sure only offenses do that. Regrettably, this is still a very "blah" team, and that ain't good enough.

I was thinking that too! Take about twisted logic!

Yeah, like last year. When he didn't even DRESS for several games and didn't take over a starting role when Ellis went down?

Right.

Why on earth would BP's ego have made Carp a starter this year but not even put him in a uni for our first few games last year?

He's not loyal to either pick. That's the point.

if parcells was here, carp would have been given every oppurtunity to be our starting OLB.

Yeah, like he was loyal when he called out Spears over and over again. Like he was loyal when he made Carp stay at home and watch our first few games last year.

I agree, but would that be as a LDE or as a DT?

Spears did not like Parcells' 3-4 scheme. He may not actually be a great fit for Phillips' 3-4 scheme. I think he still has use in Dallas, but if they can get something good in return then go for it. If not, Spears is okay. He does not stink it up even if he is not dominate.

Well, that is now what you initially said! You are saying that Wade has an ego involved in someone else then?

If parcells was here, Carp would be starting. Philipps ego isn't involved in that pick.
