Spears hurt already

Speculation. Every 3-4 end in history has suffered a drop in statistics, and check it, an end operating in the 3-4 has never led the league in sacks. Domination in the 3-4 looks much, much different than domination in the 4-3. Would he? Probably. But we don't know.

I find it hard to argue with the fact that Spears doesn't have the physical tools White did. Reggie White is arguably the greatest D-lineman in history. However, I found it curious that you picked him to compare to a rookie who played in a different set, which makes a monumental difference. Kind of skews your argument.
rule of thumb: don't argue with women, don't argue with drunks and don't argue with anybody with a gary hogeboom picture in their sig.

Reggie White was most likely the best DE ever to play the game, so there's a little wiggle room between him and a bust.

Spears showed star potential last year and is one of the guys that Parcells is very excited about, not sure what game anyone was watching last year that indicated to them a potential bust there.

I still don't think Coleman makes the team.

Don't forget that Coleman was a starter last year aklternating with Spears.

I would not dismiss him that quick. With Spears NEW injury I am sure that Parcells is not feeling the warm and fuzzies right now at DE.

Yeah I could see it happening, I just don't think it will. I think we will stop at Spears, Canty, Ellis, Hatcher, and Ratliff at that position. Saying that ... I wouldn't be shocked to be wrong, especially if Spears condition ends up being more serious than it looks to be right now.

This injury seems minor. These tears are easy to come back from, apparently - the only serious downside is missing time. Obviously Spears is not really a player you can get super excited about over, because half the time there is really no evidence of him doing his job correctly - at leat that the average fan can see watching from his constant camera angle.

Word was he came on at the end of last year. Just because you're not seeing sack totals, tackle numbers, and the like, doesn't mean he hasn't been doing well. Keep in mind, that not only was he a rookie, coming back from injury - he was also coming back to a Dline rotation. A position that does not lend itself to stat padding, and playing a lower pct of snaps, is not going to equal impressive numbers.

If he only misses 2 - 3 weeks then he should get hurt every year at this time. You don't want this in the regular season.

Only a fool would call Spears a bust. He played extremely well last year, as a rookie, winning the starting position half way through the season. He's got a ton of athleticism for a 300 pound guy, and he's hardly injury prone, playing in all 16 games last season... not to mention playing goal line FB in addition to playing his 3-4 DE spot.

Good Lord! A bust... pffftttt!

We're damn lucky to have gotten him at 20 last year. He's ideal for a 3-4 DE. If more teams played a 3-4, you can bet Spears wouldn't have lasted until the 20th pick.

He should be a dominant DE as soon as this season. Just watch.

Him missing a little time in training camp will only give Hatcher and Ratliff a little time to get some extra reps. It's no big thing.

I don't even know why I'm focusing on the Reggie White part. It was the "non-factor" part of your argument that was ridiculous.

Don't worry about it...watergun always comes out with nonsense like this. That's his MO...he likes to flame...so he can try and put it out with his "watergun"...

Reggie White ( Whom I met at a football camp Mike Quicks) Your comparing a hall of famer to a 2nd year player playing a different style of defense OKKKKKKKKay wow that's one thing about preseason all these experts fill the board with nonsense

Yep. 2300+ posts of pure nonsense.

Hey! Look who else buys into my "nonsense":

"Problem is he [Spears] misses all that work and he needs it badly," Parcells said.

its WAY too early to name Spears a bust but i also dont expect him to be a star especially playin DE in the 3-4 D. Having said that i still expect him to be a very solid player for many years to come. He should be a very solid player rushing the QB and also stoppin the run

In case you haven't noticed, this kid ain't the second coming of Reggie White.
Is the 2nd coming of Reggie White currently in the NFL and did we pass on him in the Draft or Free Agency?

I just want the 2nd coming of Ty Warren, and I think Spears is well on his way.

Get used to a few injuries, with the NFC East as competitive as it is, we should be seeing a bunch of them in the division this year. The question is whether this team is deep enough to prevail anyway.

Warren is a solid player, but I want the comparisons he drew to Richard Seymour to come true myself.

That would be nice, but I still see Canty as more the Seymour type player. I see Spears going far, but I can't really think of a comparison for him.
